..or do they all require a subscription? How about one-time pay per tone, at least?

Thanks

phonezoo.com make your own for free (assuming you have a way to transfer from your comp to the phone

You can use Audacity to make your own from any audio files on your PC

What kind of phone do you have?

If you can get ahold of phone management software, it should be able to transfer or possibly help you create ringtones.

With some phones, it's as easy as dragging and dropping an mp3 onto an SD card.

Here's one I've been using for a few years - its free.

www.myxer.com

I agree. You can import an .mp3 and make your own ringtone, or search through the premade ones from other people. If you have verizon you can still do it. Just email the tone to yourself from your computer to your cell phone (easiest way to find your phone email addy is to send a PICTURE to your email addy) because i forget what it is all the time lol. Then save it as a sound, resend that saved sound to yourself in a picture message and save it again and itll end up in your ringtones folder.

I get mine from www.enature.com for free

I use different bird calls, because to me they're a lot easier on the ears than most ring tones. They have different animal calls too.

zedge.net is the best out there; zillions of ringtones, all free, easy and safe. My Blackberry is full of ringtones from there, everything from the Enzyte theme song (my current ringer) to Napoleon Dynamite to wacky sounds.
