According to my USPTO TESS search (Trademark Electronic Search System), "Frontier" was first used by Imperial in December of 1975. The trademark was filed in March of 1976, and issued in September of that year. Previous research has shown us that Imperial bought Eugen Weber's Jowika factory in Listowel Ireland in 1977-78. The factory was closed in March of 2004. The factory in Providence, Rhode Island was closed and consolodated with the Ellenville facility in 1984-85. Quite a few of the Frontier patterns were actually made at the Baer owned Camillus Cutlery in Camillus, New York.

This is a sample record from the Camillus archives dated 1984.

This gives us a range of times during which Frontiers may have been made in Providence, Ellenville, Camillus and Ireland. I suppose it is also possible that in the last couple of years of Imperial Schrade's existance, 2003-2004, some patterns may have been made in China as some other work was moved there from both the Ellenville and Listowel facilities.

As always, the collectors-of-schrades-r.us site (COSRUS for short) has excellent resources for researching the Imperials in general and Frontiers.

We are still woefully short on Imperial catalogs (and need to add the Parker issues as well). Any donated scans would be gratefully accepted.
