I just picked up this Queen Easy Open. I got it because it's so much like one of my favorite knives (the one it's pictured with). There are NO markings on the blade other than an etching "Queen Steel #62". It's got great snap and locks up well with just a hair of wobble. I was told the scales are called "winter bone" but they feel like Derlin??? I don't how to check... I gave little to nothing for it so that makes it even sweeter! If anyone knows where I could get some info on it that would be swell... Thanks!!! ~kevin~

Took this shot with a small Soddie for size comparison...

Rest a sharp blade edge lightly on the scale. If you try to move it side to side (slightly) and it "bites" in, it's delrin (which is what it appears to be). If it "skates", it's bone.

I kinda figured that and it is Derlin but thats fine. It's a nice size for me and the Derlin makes it seem lite weight wise. Thanks for the suggestion "Blues".

Looks like queen winter bone to me. Not sure if they made delrin to look like winter bone, but what i've seen called winter bone looks like your knife. what i've seen of queen delrin does not look like winter bone, it looks likes...well...delrin :). your example is actually a bit better than usual winter bone with a deeper more uniform color.

I have a Queen with delrin scales that look very similar:

Queen made a lot of knives with that imitation Winterbottom. Durable stuff, it is indeed Delrin.
Now that sodbuster in the pic has some Beeeyouuuteefullll Stag on it!

The #62 is Delrin with Winterbottom style jigging on it.

Queen did a lot of Delrin and real bone with that stye.

Thank You Blues!!!

I've wanted several times to ask here if there was a way to tell the two apart, and keep forgetting to.

Always loved the Winterbottom Bone look, as ya can tell, unfortunately all but one, (the Serpentine Jack are Delrin), the Serpentine Jack was my first Queen and it won't be my last.

Here's my family:
