 Before i piss anyone off i want to say that I own a super cqc-7 and i love it.

I want to know if emersons are really as tough as people say they are. Now honestly i want to know how you guys think an emerson would stack up to a chris reeve sebenza or even a BM 630 skirmish. Im going to get an emerson karambit so i do like them, but i think the whole toughness thing is played up.

Thanks in advance for the responses

I'd put an HD-7 or CQC-12 up against a Sebenza or 630. That's a fair comparison, frame lock against framelock.

I regularly carry both a CQC6 and a Sebenza and have to say, whilst I have never tried to chop down trees or cut myself out of car wrecks with them, they have both stood up very well to aggressive everyday utility usage.

I think what you run into in these types of comparisons, and on this borad in general, is the same problem we run into on some of the car forums I visit. We argue synthetic oil perormance to death, or camshaft selection on a 5 rwhp benefit. It all comes down to the fact that you are trying to eek out a winner with products that are all in the 98th percentile. They are all excellent. What really makes the difference is preference.

i agree with SScamaro a lot is aesthetics and i think emersons are great in that regard.

As i said i like them i just want to know if anyone has pushed the limits of these knives. I know its probably gonna be hard to find this out. I now that cliff Stamp (I think its his name) tested a sebbie but i dont think hes tested an emerson, which i think is weird because i would have guessed that the hard use claim would have appealed to him. If anyone sees any independant testing on these id apreciate if youd post it.

I tell you what folks... if anyone is in... I'd be willing to throw in $5 bucks or so to a Moderator with a Paypal account to have a CQC 7 or Commander or what not sent to the guy over at
http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sstamp/knives/reviews.html

He does some amazing reviews and I'm sure he'd be extremely willing to pull this off.

Any takers? If so, lets start up a new thread and set up a Paypal account. I'm sure we can get enough people, and at a few bucks a donation, its not a wallet killer.

I have been interested in the same thing. A REAL review.

check the Emerson forum for the relevant link...

We're hoping for 13 folks at 10 bucks each... then send it over to the Physics Knife review guy....

Any other ideas or reviewers are taken into consideration... but most seem to be hoping for a thorough Emerson knife review.

Deathshead,

Be my guest to attempt to put your HD-7 through a Steel Barrell... I'd be willing to pay to see that

Ha yeah right! These darn HD-7 are so hard to come by even if you are willing to spend the dough.
Your right though. The tube test is one of the more extreme tests on the DVD.
If it was someone else's HD-7, that's a different story. I am also willing to pay to see that!

My thought, AGAIN, Is that Bladeforums can get atleast 20 people willing to pay $5 bucks each to do a test to determine Emerson lock strength.

I'm a big Emerson fan, and Emerson has a lot of WAVE fans, but gets burned on the Liner Locks on a few forums...

I'd be willing to cough up the cash to determine where they stand

I hear you there. Lowering the price to $5, I am assuming that we will have many more donations. Maybe for testing more expensive knives or multiple knives.
Really though, we don't have to send these knives out. We can do it ourselves. We just have to make up some practical tests. They don't have to be so scientific, just realistic and of course a bit abusive.

Well, my thought was... multiple donations at $5 bucks a pop, is fairly minimal compared to the ~$130 for a CQC-7, ~$200 for a HD-7, ~$160 for a Kerambit, etc.

I'm game, and it appears that we have about 4-5 others at the moment, so we're creeping closer...

If you want to start a poll on what model to do, etc, be my guest... I was just wanting to bring it to attention

We'll get a poll when we get more attention. Even if it isn't a posted poll but just one from posts on this thread.

if you asked me if any emerson knife could pass any of the tests shown on the cold steel dvd, I would say a big YES.. in my opinion.
