Are those Damascus 110 blades on the auction site worth fooling with?

I've seen those damascus blades on that auction site for quite sometime and often wondered how much trouble it would be to fit one in one of my lesser 110's that I have ? Does anyone have an opinion on them that they can share? They are supposed to be USA made damascus and are supposed to be ready to fit . Could someone offer a few tips on what it would take to change out the blade on a 110? Can I just punch out the front pin and change the blade, or is it more involved than that? Thanks for any advise and comments, good or bad! I would order a factory custom with damascus if it was available.

ok .. one day i talked with some one that put one in ..
one they can easily be told from Buck Damascus..
they did not fit quite as a put it in and go
it needed some fine adjustment to do it
the steel is supposed to be top shelf ..
but have heard from no one as to use ...

I got one of those blades a few years back, they are good steel, but don't fit into a 110 quite right, the back of the spine sticks up past the rocker bar ,fit and finish will need soe fine tuning /grinding /working.The steel itself is nice, just not Buck perfect.I paid less than half what the go for now.

Thanks for the opinions. I am trying to find out more about the disassembly and reassembly of the 110, But haven't had much luck yet. I would love to tinker with one and try it. I had a damascus 110 with jigged bone handles that had the buck stamped blade. I gave it to my brother for his birthday a couple of weeks ago. Now I need to get myself another one! I only had it for a few days and had a chance to touch up the blade on a ceramic rod. I was very impressed with the fine edge it took! I keep hoping Buck will offer a new run of Damascus custom shop 110's!

IMHO :
Buck is in to the Stainless Damascus for the time being
i do not see them contracting any carbon damascus while they are doing the SS

The modified limited hang-out consists of driving the brass pivot pin out of the 110 and replacing it with a screw set. The screw set consists of two #2X56TPI pan head screws and a 1/8" diameter threaded barrel. The barrel would be slightly less than 1/2" long, and the screws would be slightly less than 1/4" long (each). If the pivot bushing is too thick, you can grind it down. If the bushing is too thin, you can grind the blade down or look around for a thicker bushing. If the blade tip sticks up, grind some steel off the foot. If the rocker won't seat, enlarge the notch with diamond files or ceramic slips. Knock yourself out. If you want a brass pin instead of a screw set, send all the parts to Leroy Remer.

If you search around some and contact the custom guys who work on Bucks you will likely find a dm blade from Buck.

They are out there and I would go that route before I went with a non-Buck blade. They may be great, but not being marked Buck would bother me.

So 110Dave, Can a 110 SS Damascus custom shop knife be ordered from Buck? I ordered a 110 Ram's horn last year with S30V,and was told Damascus was not available. I guess I should call?
Tiguy7. Thanks for the info. I guess it's a little more involved than I had hoped.

seaplane - there were several Buck members here who detailed how to take a 110 apart; what press to use; the jigs they made; suppliers of scale material, brass rod, etc...You had to be a Gold or higher member to search here, but Spark posted a Google Search workaround for us bottom feeders so we could search the archives...

I haven't seen those Damascus blades, but any blade swap is best performed with the backspring also, as they are a fitted assembly...a new blade will require some fitting...

If you're not mechanically inclined (or if you're not a proctologist* :D ) and don't have a lot of time on your hands, you should consider having Leroy Remer do it... ;)

SS Damasus is reserved for the knife with pual shell
a some what expensive knife
that blade IS marked Custom were as former SS Damascus steel is not
it was marked designers choice as was the last of the carbon damascuss

My opinions are a little different than I have read here. The damascus blades you see from Grand Leavitt on the bay are top quality and will directly fit with no modifications needed. If there was an issue with fit, he would correct it. He makes blades for me and Leroy among many others. No problems with his blades!

Thanks Eric. I Love that Ramhorn Damascus drop point in your sig pic! Hearing this info from you eases my worries alot. I still want to give this a try. If it's just a matter of center punching the pivot pin out and re-installing the blade, I would be fine with it. I just want a nothing fancy 110 with damascus for a heavy duty user. I have been searching for tutorials , But no luck yet. Thanks for all the opinions and insight everyone. I'm also going to try calling the custom shop and check on a stainless damascus 110. Maybe with Walnut if it's avalable.

makes me wish buck would buy a limited number of his blades ... sniff sniff
and HINT HINT there Mr Mighty Buck Duck and CJ and the rest of the gang!
;) i see you mr 42

Eric -

Are his blades on eBay readily identifiable as Grand Leavitt (or Snake River) blades??? I really haven't looked, but IIRC, there were some...um..."foreign"...Damascus blades on the bay at one time... ;)

I have only bought directly from his store Snake River.
