Not in this case, as you may recall a forum member wanted to get his Emerson sharpened, and he had some issues sending unt back for emersons sharpening service so I told him I would do it for free, after all I bought a used big bulldog and needed to sharpen it any way.

The knife showed up today and I unpackaged it, looked vary nice. So I broke out the diamond stone and started in on it with 80 grit then 125 all the way up to 2k then a quick strop.

After this I washed the scales, took the knife apart for a cleaning and to check for rust on the stainless steel liner and sure enough their it was.

After the cleaning a little super lube on the washers, here is where I am kicking my self, I wish I had extra ampco 45 washers cause I would totally throw some in the knife.

Any way it’s all back together and will ship in the am.

So why did I do it, mostly to build my relationship with this forum and it’s members and secondly because their are no dealers in my area so I got to hold a cqc-8 for free and much to my surprise I really like it, so now it’s on my hit list.

Thanks every one on this forum and if any one ever needs help with any thing just shoot me a hello, don’t forget I have a YouTube channel where you can see many exciting reviews and conversions not just to knives but guns too and I now have a fb

On YouTube search seraphim combat

Fb is seraphim.combat.systems

I did not expect you would do a disassembly and cleaning as well. Well, I never expected to get a free sharpening offer from you either. Thanks for that and the sharpening. It all came as a surprise and an early Christmas present :)

Now I can't wait to get that knife back and use it again!! And this knife has added value to me even more now as the sharpening and cleaning was a free gift.

Which Emerson would you recommend as someone's first Emerson? I'm liking the bulldog but the CQC-7 seems to be the standard.

I would think most people would recommend the CQC-7 as your first. From there you are on your own because you will get as many opinions as there are Emerson models. Each person has their current fav.

For me. My new current favs are these:

MY Favorite Emerson currently is the CQC-7 Flipper with the ball bearings.
My Emerson most used and carried around the house and work: is a CQC-7 Mini AW because of its AW utilitarian blade style
My Emerson used for carrying for self defense: Gentleman Jim- because of the longer blade to handle ratio and narrow stabbing blade which suits my fighting style.

But like I said. For every person on here you will most likely get a different opinion. So the CQC-7 is really the model to start with and if you like that you will work from there getting and trying many other models.

I'm a fan of picking the knife you like, not necessarily the most-recommended, so on that basis if the Bulldog is grabbing you I'd say go with that.

But I also second colubrid's recommendation: try a 7. It has a neutral handle that's fantastic in every grip, it's a good size for EDC, and it's just plain satisfying. Get the 7A if you'd like some belly, or the 7V if you want a V-grind rather than the 7A/B full chisel. (I'm guessing since you like the Bulldog, full chisel isn't a sticking point.)

I think it depends. If you are not opposed to carrying a heavy thick knife then a "full size" Emerson such as the Cqc6 or Commander is a good choice.

For most people's first Emerson I recommend a Cqc7 of some sort because they are smaller than the full sized Emersons. The full sized cqc7 is the same size as the other mini emersons such as the minicommander. The Horseman is essentially a mini cqc6 scales down to the size of a cqc7.

So I recommend for someone's first Emerson a cqc7 (of any type) or a Horseman.

S Seraphim_combat Is that picture of the rust on the lockside the rust you were talking about? The reason I ask is because the lockside is titanium so should not rust. Did that rust get deposited there from another rust spot?

Edit:nvm looked again it is on the steel liner side.

Either way very generous of you to do all that for Colubrid.

My first emerson was a gentleman Jim.. then the bulldog which I liked, then I got a mini 15 and loved it, then a 7-b and it’s my fav... then a big bulldog which is to big.

The 7 is nutural it has a vary open handle so to speak and what I mean is their are no cuts or curves that lock your hand in, like the mini 15 the mini 15 fits you or it don’t but the 7 fits so many people
