Are Victorinox 111 mm models worth buying?

I also have the 111 mm Trekker, but IMHO it is too big for pocket carry. I prefer the
91 or 85 mm SAKs for routine carry.

I have two OHT's but both reside in packs, not pockets. It's a great hiking/camping knife otherwise.

The new Soldier and OHT served me well on hiking/camping trips. Considering the price, quality and functionality of these tools, they are definitely worth buying, IMO of course.

A belt pouch finesses all that, allowing me to carry whatever I want (within reason) anywhere (within reason). For decades I have toted various Vics and Leathermen on my belt and can barely tell the felt weight difference between almost any of them when carried that way. In all honestly, a Surge is enough over the top for comfort, but that still leaves me a lot of leeway. When I started doing this, there were some dress situations in which a sheath might have been considered out of place, but these days, people are desensitized by almost everyone carrying cell phones in their little holsters (I have heard of a guy in Cleveland who doesn't, but he's always the odd gink anyway ;)). If anyone notices a sheath, it mostly registers as "phone" and of no concern. Those who do know what are more likely to be knife-friendly people themselves. At least, that has been my experience.

FYI, it's not because the OHT's are so big that they reside in two packs but rather to have an equipped pack for myself, wife, or kids when hiking. None of them routinely carry a knife on their person. The OHT is a serious enough knife for outdoor chores should the need arise.

They're a must for your backpack, but also nice for belt carry. My favorites for packing are the Fireman and the Outrider. The Rucksack makes for a nice carry knife.
