In recent weeks things have been a bit crazy with all of the spammers, trolls, and troublemakers. As a whole, how would you say the moderators are doing in handling all of these problems.

I have no complaints. I moderate an MSN community, and understand a little of what you have to go through. Keep up the good work!

Here are my observations:

Reporting a thread problem in the main discussion forum doesn't really work as it seems Spark and Dave don't have time to answer anything. A few weeks ago a few threads slowly spiralled out of control (Folding Freak), despite having reported it two days earlier. Cougar took care of it after I notified him with PM. IMO there needs to be more active moderators on the main discussion forum.

Also IMO, if there is a thread that a moderator sees, but can't do anything about because they aren't super moderators, they should post somethign that says approximately "Please don't post to this thread until a super mod moves it." Or something ike that.

IMO, there is a very lax attitude concerning putting or moving political threads where they belong. ANY post with political content should be moved, not just those threads that moderators disagree with.

My take away lesson from all this, which by the way seems to work pretty well, is if there needs to be some moderating done, I PM Cougar or Gus.

Alot of the moderators copy and paste threads that need to be moved into threads in the moderators Back End forum. We let them know of potential problems with members, bad posts, and posts that need to be moved. They pretty much handle it from there.

Being an admin of another forum I know what goes on behind the scenes and I know what being a moderator means. It can be a thankless task at times.

I believe the mods here do a pretty good job and deserve all the support they can get. While I don't always agree with everything they do or say I'm happy to accept the position that they're here to run things and if I don't like it I'm free to bugger off.

Ken and in fact all the Mods do a good job here with Trolls. My only complaint has always been that other ideas are rarely implemented and usually ignored. I doubt that has anything to do with the Mods though.

:)

I'd say y'all do pretty well. Trolls are dealt with swiftly, except when a few are allowed to stay for the purposes of our amusement. :)

The quickest way for you to report a troll or any other inappropriate content like spamming is probably with the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point, in the upper right corner near the post count #. It even pops up with a message block where you can tell us what the problem is.

Remember, there are going to be some times when there just aren't mods or supers around. We can't be everywhere all the time, even though I don't sleep nights. :D

We just went through a period where it seemed trolls rolled in with every morning tide. Usually it's not so hectic. Half the fun of dealing with them should be ignoring them. ("Don't feed the trolls!") If we can get them on Whine & Cheese we can all enjoy the fun, even them.

sorry, I had to give you guys one poor vote to offset the brownnosing out there... but seriously, you guys don't hand out the azzwhupping as often as you should.

You are correct.

at risk of echoing lone wolf how come I can't vote? I imagine it has something to do with post count or join date...???

Unfortunately only the Super Mods can hand down the serious ass-whoopings and I would venture to guess that those orders come down from the H.M.F.I.C. Spark. They have to power to even ban the non-Super Mods! I do what I can with what I am given. I report what needs to be reported and move threads if I have to. I do keep on the lookout for spam and problem posters and send it of to those who have to power to handle it. Sometimes I do get into it with a another mod over something but it's nothing more than ruffled feathers 90% of the time. All in all, I like this place. I could do without the trolls and the troublemakers but they come with the territory.

And if it's an ass whoopings you want I will gladly dole one out to you when I see you at the NYCKS in Nov. :p ;) :D
