Are wood handled 156OT's fakes?

Here's why I ask. The ones I can see clearly on the bay (many pics are out of focus) do not have dots (...) between the letters USA on the tang. I have a 152, 154 and 165 which all show U.S.A. I believe my pile of folders do as well.

Using the search function, I found an old thread saying something about the dots being important. Did authentic 156's have the dots? Are these frankenknife blades fakes?

Thanks for your help.

I just looked on ebay and all of them I saw did have the dots though some were very faint. Judging by the stock numbers some sellers are using to identify them, they are among those pallet blades shipped offshore to be finished, shipped back and sold to ebay sellers by the boxfull. Tangstamps vary. Some blades are carbon and some stainless. Asian pakawood handles and rivets.

I believe that the absence of dots is simply a stamping or buffing phenomenon. If the BLADE says USA or U.S.A., it was made in America. If it has been re-handled in pakkawood, that was probably done in China, and nobody seems to know whether THOSE blades were heat-treated or not. There MAY have been a few 156s made in America with walnut or oak handles, but I don't think any of them were done in pakkawood. Without a picture, all this is, of course, little more than speculation. I always thought the 156 knife was a good handle with a pre-worn-almost-to-the-grave blade. That's just me.
