Quite recently I mastered a new social network for myself. network to find new useful information. I look there for knives and about food, but the most interesting thing is bushcraft!

Everything is the downfall of our youth:rolleyes: That's been the narrative for at least 70 years.

TikTok is like pretty much all social media: mostly a waste of time with small pockets of good knowledge drowning in a sea of absolute stupid. Xi is collecting your data, yes. But it's not like Google, Meta, or the Reptilians living below the Earth's crust are benevolent.

On topic, I don't find TikTok's short form format conducive to teaching a lot of skills. Life hacks maybe, but I don't trust a 60 second video to show me how to make a proper deadfall.

TikTok is it's own beast in terms of content. In China, it's educational, and teaches kids about astronauts. In America, it's educational and teaches boys how to put on mascara. It also dominates in terms of daily usage because it promotes mindless addictive scrolling. But I agree about the social medial data collection here in the states. The big tech oligarchs are not friendly to the vast majority of us.

I would like to see it, why not make one, share it, and see what happens? I don't have tiktok, but I know you can still share the link and view it in a browser. There's an imbecile at work who constantly does this so I know...

Good luck!

Not sure where you got your info, but a quick Google search shows TikTok doesn't even exist in China, so it's not teaching kids about astronauts. There is a similar app owned by the same company, but it's hardly educational. Seems to be used mostly for livestreamed infomercials. As with any social media platform, the content is based on what users post!

What?

I'm getting flamed, but that's fine. A "quick google search" shows what I'm saying. It's douyin, and in China, it's restricted in a way it's not in the US:

“If you’re under 14 years old, they show you science experiments you can do at home, museum exhibits, patriotism videos and educational videos"

“There’s a survey of pre-teens in the U.S. and China asking, ‘what is the most aspirational career that you want to have?’ and in the U.S., the No. 1 was a social media influencer, and in China, the No. 1 was astronaut,”
