Are you really using your CR Knives?

I have been looking at the works of art in the images section and it struck me; are you people using these knives or do you take them out of the safe and take pictures and then put them back? OR do you really use them?

The CR collection is so usable but appear to be pocket jewelry. I own a large Sebenza with iron wood inlays and have two annual small sebenzas on the way. I have been looking very seriously at buying a "nice" mnandi too.

Got to admit that when I go through my EDC rotation, I am using a Strider SMF, ZT301, Microtech UMS and a Lightfoot Suppressor. I think the small sebbie will see some regular EDC too.

So are you using your sebbies or are they spending time in jail in your safes?

Frankly, there are Sebbies that are works of art and probably should be safe queens and then there's Sebbies that are meant to be used. My small micarta Sebbie is definitely in the latter group. I've seen other Sebbies online that I probably would never use if I owned them, but then I refuse to buy knives that I won't use and so I'll never own one of those knives.

Seriously, a plain Sebbie or a Sebbie with almost any inlay ought to be a worker. It's a shame to lock those away, in my opinion. On the other hand, some of the stuff that I see on Lisa's Picks, I don't know, I'd probably take them out of my safe every once in a while and admire them. Which is why I don't buy them. Even though they look really, really cool.

But then, that's just me ....

I've only got one and it's plain, regular Small. It gets used. I think most here aren't used, not at least by my definition. If in pics it's pristine, it's not being used. Carried maybe on occassion, but not used. If I had multiples in unique variations, they'd be stored as they wouldn't do anything the one currently being used cannot do. When I had collected Spydies, I'd get one regularly but rarely use it as my EDC still kept on working fine for me. And those were $100 knives, not $400+ knives. Just my thoughts, though.

I have 3 Unique Graphic/Lisa's Pick Sebs. They're beautiful knives. I've carried one a few times but for whatever reason, reluctant to put it to hard use. I think it will get better over time but two of them pretty much just sit in the case. I guess when I get a couple more I will carry one of them full time because I have "spares".

i have no use for a 330 + folder...i have spydies that do the same work for half to a third less...granted not the same warrenty but i dont really care... But i am hard pressed to find a better fixed blade out there. had a sebbie and its gone but ill never git rid of the Sable IV and my Project II...meanest useful tools i have ever used.

Why don't you just get a Sebbie that you mean to be a user? Get a plain, or something with an inlay (micarta, whatever) that will get more interesting as it gets used?

I can understand the impulse to own some of Lisa's picks, lord knows I've been tempted from time to time, but if you're going to be a Sebbie collector, you ought to own at least one Sebbie that you can EDC without wincing at every little ding and scratch!

bulgron, I bought each Seb with the "intention" of using it. My "plan" is to get a large Classic Unique Graphic/Lisa's Pic to round out my collection, i.e., one example of each model, then I'll probably pick up a Computer Generated model and EDC it. I'll carry the others later, maybe, after the anxiety wears off.

You don't like the inlays?

As for me, I keep struggling with the idea of getting a large Seb (almost certainly an inlay). I really like my small Seb, but sometimes I think the large might be a little more useful. Still debating it, still going back and forth, still deciding if I actually want to buy another CRK.

Because, you know, I can quit any time I want to. :p

At first, I put the seb in a box and was afraid to use it for fear of losing or damaging it in some way. Slowly, I started to remember exactly why I got the darned thing to begin with (because it was tough and would last). I worked the LG Reg into my EDC and now use the heck out of it.

I must confess, I do have a couple of Unique Graphics that I still keep in the safe though.

I use both my large classic and my small bocote inlay sebs. Granted I generally don't use my knives all that hard but, I edc them and wouldn't hesitate to open a box or plastic clamshell packaging with either or a occasional zip tie or opening letters. I prefer the large because it is slightly more comfortable in the hand but, the small is more edc friendly due to the sheeple area I live in. Both get pocket time and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I went with a large micarta with double thumb lugs, and to me its the perfect using knife. . . I almost went with something a little 'fancier' looking at first. Now I'm very glad I made that choice that I did. I carry it every day and take it out in the woods when hunting/fishing too. - - - -

I use my Umfaan every single day. It's always one of my EDCs. Great little knife!

I have a small Classic plain. I use it but I don't abuse it. I also carry a 3.5" prybar that I will use when brut force is needed. The Sebbies are built very tough and can take a good bit of abuse. I fear losing it more than breaking it.

Well, I finally carried one of my Unique Graphic Sebs yesterday. Felt good. Used it to cut some lanyard and then cut my steak at the Outback Steakhouse. Actually got an Ooohhh, Ahhhhhh from the waiter. He thought it was a really cool knife. Hmmmm, maybe I'll carry it more often.

While I don't carry a Sebbie everyday (my Mini-Rittergrip has a good bit of pocket time), I think it's a bit crazy to not use them. After all, if you are not buying a unique then what you have is a production folder. Holding a production folder for a collector's item just doesn't fit...at least in my way of thinking.

If you have a plain, either small or large, classic or regular, and you are not carrying and using it, then you've wasted your money. Same goes for the micarta Sebbies. That's my 2 cents worth.

:)

I carry a small Sebbie or a Mnandi every day. My preference for EDC are the non-inlaid Sebbies as they are fractionally thinner in the pocket (one of my considerations for an EDC).

I have a large Sebbie I carry when in the boonies and one inlaid Sebbie I only carry occasionally.

I stay away from the inlaid ones as they're frankly too nice to carry.

My Mnandi is my EDC, although I try not to abuse it too badly... I have a small jigged rosewood Sebbie that I carry occasionally when the Mnandi is unavailable (I give it the day off).:) I don't use them for the really ugly stuff (as someone said when I really should be using a different tool), but they do get used.

My new Annual Small Sebenza with Maka wood inlays is going to stay in my pocket and not in a knife bag.

If I have some harsh jobs to do around the property or warehouse, I will get out my Kershaw or Strider SMF or ZT301.

Might as well use the knives I own because you can't take em with you. :)

I have a few Unique Graphics that are "safe queens". I guess I am saving them as collectors (hopefully they will keep their value). I use but don't abuse a small plain Sebenza and a large micarta Classic. I figure that I got them b/c of their durability and quality. Like I have heard before: "You can get by with one gun for most purposes but it is more fun to have several and nice ones to use if you can."
