ares - black blade only?

I had one in ATS34 and a bead blasted blade. It was a pre-production one.

There are some out there. I see them for sale now and then on the for sale forums. As far as I know ATS34 and 154CM are the only steels they were offered in.

They USED to be avaible in plain, as well as in different colored handles.
Limited Editions were availbile in Carbon Fiber and M2 steel as well as winewood and S30v

The Ares WAS offered without the coating but it's out of production. They went by the model #730 and 735. There was also a limited edition Carbon Fiber scale with M2 HS blade metal but it was coated. This website has the old non-coated Ares at the best prices I've seen. Hope this helps. http://www.cumberlandknives.com/bm-730.htm

Great knives.

Here is the ATS34/ Maroon next to the M2/Carbon Fiber.

The Ares was made with ATS-34, 154CM, M2HS, D2, and S30V steel both coated and uncoated except for the S30V which came uncoated, and the M2 which came coated. Handle materials ranged from black G-10, black and green G-10, maroon and black G-10, all carbon fiber, carbon fiber and wood, and all wood.

thank you so much for pointing the site out. i will be ordering there shortly. but tell me this first, what are the differences between the new and old modles besides the non coating?

I prefer non-coated blades, the Ares is no exception:

The current production 732 isn't catalogued as a non-coated blade, but they are available...IIRC there was a run of plain satin 732's in 154CM that was made for Moteng. Recently seen several for sale on that un-named auction site. The 5th and 6th knives from the left are the plain blade uncoated version of the 732.

agony, are all those your's?

i find the 732bt2 very hard to flick all the way open compared to my swtich back, are all the ares like this?

I've got both the maroon/purple-and-black and green-and-black models, in satin. They're excellent knives!

(The green-and-black one gets a lot of EDC use on Sundays in the fall... you see, I'm a Philadelphia Eagles fan! ;) )

can someone please tell me the differences if any of the old (730) and new 732 ares?
I may be mistaken but the only differences I can see are (730)dual tone g10 vs. (732)solid black g10 only, and (730) 154CM steel has Rockwell of 59-61 and (732) 154CM steel with Rockwell of 58-60. As far as the size, design, weight, etc. they should be the same.

MJR, you might try a minor adjustment on the tightness of the pivot screw. I've got three versions of the Ares myself, and they all swing open quite nicely. If the pivot adjust fails, you might try using Militec.
