I picked this Arete up second hand but don’t have much information on it.

Is there a way of finding out what steel it is made from?

I’m going with O1.

Edit: 2012 1012 010 – Arete, black canvas on white and blue liners with mosaic pins, Scandi on 1/8” 01. This is an old-school Fiddleback from 2012 with thick handles and old maker's marks.

what’s the best way to sharpen the Arete?

I have a KME but I can’t match the angle and don’t want to put a microbevel on it.

Although, maybe a microbevel isn’t a terrible idea.

micro isn't a bad thing on a scandi. If you strop it you end up with one anyway.

Wow. Nice old score. Its 01 tool steel. Scandi knives need to have a flat bevel maintained. Use stones.

Its the one with the -tay sound on the end. Moulenbelt is the one to ask. Its some kind of greek term about tall guys with big heads.
