I'm thinking of ordering a Dobruski, and I am wondering if I will have any problem importing it? Thanks for any advise.

I dont think you will have a problem getting it into Arizona. But you will have one getting it into the US. Customs considers balisongs switchblades which cannot come into the US fully assembled. One of those dumb laws they never got rid of.

You know, everytime a Dobruski Balisong is mentioned, I just want to scream.

For one thing, they are beautiful knives.

The part about U.S. Customs makes me want to scream...

Do you want to know how absolutely ABSURD U.S. Customs are?

Interstate commerce in Switchblade Knives is controlled. The Balisong is not considered a Switchblade by one Department of the Government, yet Customs is allowed to simply declare it a Switchblade even though another Branch of The Federal Government clearly does not define it as a Switchblade Knife.

I guess we should thank our lucky stars and I should stop bitching about it, next thing you know, the Justice Department will come after them after declaring them to be Switchblades as well.

Thanks for the replies. So, does that mean I'm throwing my money away, or should I make sure it comes into the country in pieces in seperate packages?

check it dudes: am i right? all in the same package is ok, as long as it's still in pieces. i think that's a way to do it.

If a Customs Agent can figure out it is a Balisong Knife, or a piece of one, they can confiscate it as Contraband. Simple as that.

They have all sorts of Posters and whatnot, like for the Learning Impaired, to make sure that even the most obtuse individual can figure out The Racket of claiming a Balisong is a Switchblade when in fact it is not.

Well, I got the impression from Mauro that balis destined for non-bali banned states were getting through OK. I hope so, because I ordered one.

Gosh I really hope I get mine also... Don't get confiscated... I ordered two...

Mauro, can you give us some insight on if there getting through alright?

Well, up to now all balis were delivered without problems, except for the one to California, which was confiscated. Some of them were even inspected by Customs and cleared later. That's all I can say. Obviously I am an outsider to give a final word.
