Here's a new twist on a regular Knife Show format.

This year, for the first time, there will be a reception Fri. night before the Arkansas Knifemaker's Show( in Little Rock,Feb 14th & 15th.) It will be on Fri, (the 13th!), 6:30 to 8Pm, with food, drinks, and band. Makers will bring their best knife, which may be offered for sale by drawing, and from which the Best in Show will be chosen by maker vote.

This will add a bit of the exclusive "Art Show" atmosphere to a regular Knife Show venue and allow more opportunity for makers and collectors to interact.

I've invited each client who bought or ordered a knife from me at last year's show to join me as my guest. Tickets will also be sold at the door to all comers.

What do you think of this format addition, and will you try to attend if you make it to the Arkansas Show?

This sounds like a great idea. Were I attending the show (and I SO wish I were) I'd be at that event for certain.

Such pre-show receptions are always a great social event.
In this case there indeed is a surprising "twist" to it....

All the best,

I really like this format and wish I was able to attend. Having makers bring their top pieces and having a drawing really increases interest. An hour and a half doesn't seem long enough.

Win, et al,

Should have said that the voting and drawing will be at 8PM, there'll be chatting, food, and music, even dancing, I understand, 'til whenever.

What a great idea!!!

I'm happy to say that I will be in attendance- with my "knife traveling buddy" Chuck Kerwin.

First a stop at the ABS Museum and on to the "soiree."

It's a super idea, And I know we will have a great time. My son, Scott and I will be there. Larry Bailey

I also like the pre-show reception concept.
Anytime you can get makers and collectors together without a knife table between them is a good thing. It gives each a chance to relax and get to know one another.

As Paul, I would also recommend the ABS Museum (inside the Arkansas Historic Museum) as it's a first class display of many historic and modern forged knives. Just minutes from the airport and hotel, it's well worth the time.

If you go, sometimes a large bearded fairy leaves free passes to the knife show at the ABS Museum on late Friday afternoon before the show. :)

The bearded fairy part scares me. I have seen him in person and it gives me the willies. I am looking forward to it and think it is a great idea. Diane and I will be there and I have heard that the bearded fairy dances too.
