I was supposed to be camping this weekend with my son, but family medical issues are keeping us close to home... The upside is that I got time to open up my new Arktis vest and play with it a little... I picked up this pack after seeing Fonly's African pack. Arktis is apparently a British company that makes several different types of SAR style vests and packs. This rig consists of two components, a vest and a hydration pack. The vest and water pack can be used together or separately. The stitching and material seems to be pretty decent for the $70 that I paid. The large side pockets hold an MRE or Space Blanket perfectly. Loaded with goodies in the pic, the pack and vest weigh about 7-8 pounds (no water). I wore the rig briefly and found it to be pretty comfortable. I'll post some on body pics soon, when I wear it on a hike.

Looks really functional Mneedham. Based on the title, I was expecting chain mail :D

I like that a lot amigo, very functional without too much 'tactical' layered on. Dig the built in water supply, too.

It seems to be pretty well made. I like having the gear against my sides, as opposed to my back (its a little cooler). I only wore it for about 10 minutes but it felt good, kind of like military load-bearing gear. Eight pounds distributed this way is not bad..

The hydration pack is a big bonus, I actually didn't realize that they were separate units. I agree on the tactical thing too... I don't mind offending a couple of overly-sensitive people, but Mall Ninja isn't a look I strive towards...
