Has anyone experienced arm pain below the elbow near the upper forearm from extensive chopping with a fixed blade? I'm not certain if its from chopping away with my NMFBM or if I sustained an injury.

my dad had the same thing. its called tennis elbow or something. Its a slight strain in the tendons. there is something called a tennis arm band. its a stiff stirafoamy band secured by an elastic fabric. if you wear that just under the elbow you will feel instaint releif and after wearing it for a few weeks your arm should be better.

Tendonitis....Motrin or other anti inflammatory. If it persist, accupressure will do wonders.

You might be old, that is pretty painful too. I experience it all too often.

Or, it could be a defective knife. In which case, you'll have to send it to me for inspection :D

Get a saw!:D--My arthritis got so bad in my hands that my big chopping knife days are pretty much over. Still use a machete every once in a while but the Silky Saw Pocket Boy is much quicker and easier on the joints than a big chopper. -KV

It's probably just tendonitis with a little joint swelling. Elbow problems almost always pass without too many complications. Is where you're describing the pain is in the wrist extensors? If so, it's probably what's commmonly referred to as tennis elbow. It's possible to have ulnar nerve entrapment/cubital tunnel syndrome which is more serious and extremely unpleasant, but it would be in the flexor group of muscles on the inside of the elbow and will send symptoms into the two smallest fingers of your hand. The elbow is one of the least common joints to develope advanced osteoarthritis and will generally have a history of a previous joint dislocation--while other joints like those in the hands, shoulders and knees are very commonly effected by osteoarthritis. A tennis elbow brace during activities that incite the pain after two weeks of little or no use should allow it to heal. If not, go to an orthopedist or another doctor who you trust. :)

Classic tendonitis! Ice the hell out of it and pop some NSAIDs. Get that inflammation down before you chop again!!!

Was that in your knife holding arm, or beer holding one??

Maybe switch to a lighter beer.... ;)

I started chopping with my left arm. I can't tell you how difficult that is. The NMFBM and BWM was worth every penny and its received its share of use. For those who safe queen either one, you are missing out on two great knives.
