Hey all,
Just got some pretty cool armadillo shell pieces for handle scales that I snagged of Burls & Blades on instagram.

I'm wondering if I should stabilize these (no clue how to do that) or if that's only for wood and brittle things like shells? They seem like once they're flattened and epoxied down, there shouldn't be much of an issue but it wouldn't be the first time i was mistaken about something if that wasn't the case.

Just don't want to be mid process and waste an armadillo shell for nothing.

I think you'll find Armadillo will require stabilizing - seems like I've heard Cactus Juice does good if used with proper procedure, vacuum and stuff.

Encapsulate was the first word that came to my mind. Unless you want stabilized hair. :D

Hey bud, those are stabilized already. shoot me an email and I'll walk you through prepping them for actual use.

Man if I would have known there was value in armadillos when I was a kid we would have been the richest kids in town from all the dillos we eradicated from our farm

Just a thought:
armadillos can and do carry leprosy-and can infect humans.

Is it super hard, or is there some bend to it? Always looking for something cool to use as an inlay material.

My only previous experience goes back a number of years while in Mexico. I bought a stuffed 'dillo because I thought it would look good in my room. Had to sneak it through customs and all. About a week after I put it on my bookshelf I started to smell dead animal. Had to bury it in the backyard. I guess the quality of taxidermy was fairly low! [emoji13]

It's semi flexible as is, going to back it with some micarta liners once i flatten it. I have a feeling it's going to sand up pretty nice. I really like the gradations of color and also of "knob" size on these, they pretty much tell you themselves the best way to arrange them.

That's pretty funny that they were just selling dead animals haha.
