I don't know why I didn't post this here earlier.
A friend of mine works at Picatinny Arsenal on the American Army game, and told me about the free Armed Forces Day celebration they were having today. Free to the public, first time since 9/11. So after 3 ID checks and a cursory inspection of my car, me and Johnny the crazed Marine went to visit. (Didn't find the 18" WW2 khukuri...)
Mike told us that they crush a car with a tank, so what the hell, it sounded better than hiking with a bunch of old farts in the Palisades. It was actually pretty cool, and if you're in the NJ area I'd recommend going there next year. There were Revolutionary War, Civil War, and WW 2 re-enactors with demonstrations (cannons, muskets, and Garands), a helicopter parachute drop, a lot of military vehicles and weaponry to handle, and of course, they crush two cars with an M60 tank.
I took 92 photos, here are them pared down:

First things first, the WW2 re-enactors (The Big Red One Historical Society) did some squad tactics demonstrations, and showed kids why the Garand is better than a bolt-action...

Some various WW2-era weapons, mostly decommissioned or replicas thanks to NJ commie gun laws. The re-enactors were from Pennsylvania.

bambambambambambambambamPING!

I got to handle the Barrett that this Lt Colonel was showing around.
Here are some various photos of modern weapons. Johnny showed me how to clear the SAW and M240 Golf. And I got to handle a grenade-launcher equipped rifle for the first time. Johnny is the one with the buzzcut, obviously.

It's a sin to demil a weapon like that BAR. Nice (or not?) to know that Kalifornia isn't the only state run by anti-gun idiots.

Cool pics though; thanks for posting them.

Now,
Cars crushed by tanks! USA! USA! USA!

Tanker girls!

Sorry, it took a while to post these because BFC only allows 9 images per post.

Sounds like a good time.

I've always thought that an M203-equipped M16 and a good allotment of the chalk-loaded practice rounds for it, along with a few hundred yards of clear ground and some old car wrecks, would be a powerful public relations tool. I'd buy my own ammuntion for it if they'd let me shoot it more often. :)

Tanks crushing cars? That's too cool.

My folks used to live up near there at Long Valley. I passed by Picatinny I don't know how many times but never actually went in. I hear some interesting stories about it.
