Now and then, I read in this forum about those army-issued khukuris which are also numbered.

Is there anything special about these khukuris? Surely, they are not better than the HI khukuris which I personally think surpass the others by a wide margin.

Seriously though, who knows about the army issued khukuris and what makes them special? Or are there any difference between the army khukuris and the other types?

Golok there are many different types of collections out there. Military khuikuries are desirable becuase they appeal to both the khukuri collector, and collectors of militaria. The numbered (well marked) military kukries are rarer and more desirable for that reason.

On a practical level, you do not want to use these. They can be used but these are historical artifacts and as such should be preserved. HI khuikuries compare well with the military stuff. it is better than the standard military issue knives, and there is absolutely nothing to keep you from chopping away.
