I held a GAW a few days ago and I thought I would pass on my impression.

Before I even write anything else I have to thank Mike, Collectorknives.com. Mike was kind enough to not only send Robb's winning knife directly to him, to save me time and money, but he also added a little surprise to my order. He added a Queen City Trapper!

Thank you Mike for the gesture sir. It is certainly going to be used.:)

In the GAW the idea was to get whatever was selected by the winner for that person and myself. The giraffe bone Robb selected had only one in stock. So, I decided to get not only the Warthog Ivory, but the Maple as well, and Im glad I did. I went ahead and bought two because I plan to hand these down.

The Dassie, imo, is a beautiful little knife. At 5" oal it has a solid three finger grip for my hand. I do have smaller hands so for others your ring-finger, or third finger, will probably feel as though it is not fully on it when gripped. Also, the way I usually hold a fixed blade when working, the Dassie is really a solid 2 finger grip.

It is a knife I see carrying to a wedding, church, or another event that may require slacks and a tie. I don't see it as an edc type of fixed blade imo, but it certainly could be done comfortably, especially in an office type environment. It's certainly a slicer.

The overall quality is certainly some of the best I have seen and Mike has it listed correctly for fit and finish at a 9. It fits great in the sheath, which in itself is quality.

Robb, I hope you enjoy yours buddy. I really do like this little knife.

Here's a few pics.

Thanks again Mike.

Just gorgeous pieces, Brett!! Nice sheaths as well. The blade shape, grind, and end of the handle shape...just sings.

Brett - Those are 2 beauties  A great GAW my friend and kudos to Mike, he is a fine Gentleman :D

Congratulations Brett, you just upped the ante. You turned the classic bladeforums answer of "buy both", into "buy all three"!:D. Good form! You raised the bar.

Seriously, thanks for the great giveaway! And thanks for choosing the Arno Bernard!! I can't wait to use it when I return. I loved your evaluation of the Dassie, especially of how small and pocketable, yet how capable it is. I was hoping to hear that it was in fact a wee thing that offered good grip, and was thin enough to be a great slicer.

The warthog ivory and maple burl look great!!

Way to go Bret, for an imaginative and generous GAW. What a great choice in that Arno Bernard, love it. Congrats Robb.

Great Stuff Brett, and Karma my friend, you are a very deserving guy - what lovely knives!
