I have been studying Dr. David Darom's books on custom knives for a little over a year now. And although I read the entirety of the text immediately, and studied each photograph, I am constantly discovering new things.

Like standing on the beach and looking out over it and thinking you know it, but then reaching down to turn over an inconspicuous rock and finding a tussle of life going on underneath, which you'd never thought of:).

There is a section from one of the books on the Art of Arpad Bojtos, and I'm finding that it is getting the most eye traffic. His vision and his work, to my mind, are incredible and possibly unprecedented in some ways.

If anyone out there has any thoughts on the man or his knives, or pictures of same, I would greatly appreciate you sharing them in this thread.

Here is Arpad Bojtos' site; http://www.arpadbojtos.sk/

And here is a picture I lifted from his site, (hope that's ok);

Lorien -- I think the largest collection of Arpad Bjotos knives are in the hands of Don Guild. He has always been a favorite maker of mine but I have never found a knife I like at the time I have the $ with which to buy it. If Don reads here, maybe he will post photos of his Arpad Bojtos knives in his collection.

Hi Guys,

Don Guild will be displaying several of Arpad's amazing new
knives in my next book "Knife Art".

I shall post a few of these pages as "teasers" here and soon...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Hello Lorien,

I am happy that you still enjoy my books. I always had the feeling
that I was a little crazy as I still page through all of them quite often,
again and again enjoying every moment.

Here is one of the pages displaying Arpad's knives from the Don Guild
collection. Enjoy.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Here are two more of Arpad's amazing creations, also from the
Don Guild Collection.

You are absolutely right, Lorien, about Arpad's knives. One constantly
finds in them worlds within worlds of carved shapes and symbols!

David Darom (ddd)

Arpad is one of my favorite makers too. He made me one of my first custom knives several years ago. I was lucky enough that Stephen F. had the time to photograph this back then.

I do own yet an other one of his knives. Arpad made this dagger in 2008 for me. The photo isn´t the best but at least you can see some of the details. And no that isn´t a crack in the handle but a colored vein in the walrus ivory.

Besides the fact that he is one of the most talented makers alive today, Arpad is one of the nicest, friendliest and soft spoken men I have ever encountered.

I second that, Marcel!

Yes in my opinion, Arpad is one of the most talented and artistic knife/sheathmakers in the world.
What impresses me most is that he only utilizes simplistic hand tools in the creation of his masterpieces.

if I were ever to apprentice under any maker and could make the choice, Arpad would be the one I'd choose.
Not only are the shapes and profiles very pleasing, but man he just has an outstanding perspective and truly thinks outside the box when it comes to 'theming' his knives and embellishing them is such amazing ways.

Marcel, you're a lucky bugger:D:thumbup:

David, there is rarely a day that goes by that I don't feel gratitude for your books. They get A LOT of use!:)

I'm glad they are such high quality or my pages would have fallen out by now. ;)

Thanks guys.
I originally made my books the to be USERS..... :)

Arpad is at the apex of makers that use carving as a way to give their knives a more artistic look. I don't like every knife of his that I have seen, but most of them are incredible.

Arpad is an incredible sculptor that uses knives as a medium. His artwork is at the VERY top from what i've seen.

I've admired his knives for years, having seen them in the Knives annual, Don Guild's website and in David's books.

They ARE beautiful, but I wonder, are they really knife's? or sculptures?

Dave

They are knives as much as knives can be knives, only "a little" more...
Here is one of Arpad's small folders.... Also from the Don Guild collection.

Incredible Work. It is just Insane!!!!

Awesome book, my wife got it for me for fathers day. Looks like it will be a yearly gift from now on.

Thank-you for sharing, gentlemen! Inspiring and awe-inspiring at the same time:thumbup:

I guess I'm still a long way from seeing these as anything but art:) I'm stuck in the Fikes, Hanson, Tai Goo bowies stage.

Thanks,

Dave

The photos David has shared here are actually from his new book titled "Knife Art" which I believe will be out early to mid 2010.
Can't wait to see it.......

I am always taken by Arpad's knives. I have never met the man, but I think he is one hell of an artist and craftsman. Incredible skill!
I also have heard that he uses basic tools. The rest of us make excuses about our equipment, but what we really lack is the skill and artistic abilities.
