  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

I want to get an Arrakis and I find myself drawn to the black coated 2 tone blades. How durable is the black coating that WE uses? The knife won’t be a safe queen, it will be carried, but won’t see hard use. I’ve never had a coated blade so don’t know what to expect.

It'll be a good PVD/DLC kind of coating, it shouldn't feel all that thick and in my experience the well done blackening processes like that are very durable. Nothing like a cheap, crappy coat of paint or epoxy, and it won't rub off or get immediately scraped up if you don't use abrasives on it.

I have the black wash Fornix. From that, I'd say it scrapes off easier than DLC cutting harder/scratchier materials but is certainly better than a cheaper type, paint, whatever. I'd guess NG VI is right that it's something decent applied via PVD
