AND PLEASE.....!!! From Kismet

1. Contain your initial enthusiasm.

Dang, I broke rule number one and knicked myself opening the package!!!!
Actually, knicking myself only helped to reinforce that rule. It was written for people like me, so thanks for the heads up!!
When I picked it up from the post office, the man jokingly told me it felt like a machete, if he only knew how right he was.
So, it's beautiful, I'm extremely happy, and I really dig the Jewish star on the blade. ;)
It was advertised as a leftie w/ fingergrooves, but it's almost an ambi..... Nothing a bit of filework won't take care of.
Nice shiny blade and handle, nice butt cap, very nice sheath, way better than I expected!!!!
Bill, you rock, you're my newly adopted Uncle!!!!
The only question I have is about those 2 carved lines you see on the bottom part of the blade of most khukris, Well, mine has them, but they aren't deep like I've seen on most others (I read somewhere it was to lessen the weight, is that true?) In fact, it looks like they were deeply etched, not dug out at all. I am wondering what is the significance of these lines, or are they only there for appearance. (I'm not complaining, they look good!!!)
Actually, I do have one more question, what kind of oil is used from the original packing, and do you guys this oil on a regular basis, and if not, what do you use. THANKS!!!

Walking Man-- Glad to hear you are enjoying your khukuri. The lines on the blade near the spine are often called the sword of Shiva. Some are deeper than others, but I don't really think it has any effect on the functionality of the khukuri. Uncle Bill uses WD-40 on the khukuris before he ships them. Most folks will not recommend this as a rust inhibitor or lubricant. I've had good luck with a thin coat of mineral oil on my blades. Paste wax seems to work well also. You should check out the HI FAQ , particularly the sections on construction and terminology and care and maintenance. There's tons of good info in there.

And Uncle Bill hooks another one. Welcome to the club! Let us know how excited you get when you actually get to cut stuff with it, that's always been the true joy of a khukuri for me.

Thanks for enthusiastic report from the field.

Not quite. I don't have a field, but I wish I did. I live in an apt. building and my folks live on a golf course, so there's no privacy, and quite frankly I don't have the cohones to play with a Khuk out in full view in a gated community......

I would take it over to my friend's house, but they would require me to allow them to play with the Khuk, and they would use it in ways that would make me very unhappy. If anyone's going to scar up my baby, it's ME, darnit. So, I've got an annoying dilemna, but I'll figure something out. Sigh. :(
Wait I just thought of something. I might play....

If you've considered taking out a wall in your current abode,
you have the perfect tool.
Plasterboard, 2x4s, paneling......no problem.
:D

Glad to hear another blade is appreciated. Hope you like this forum enough to stick around. Great times are had around here sometimes. In fact most every day.:)

Yes, I have noticed there is an especially friendly air about this forum. Even if I never buy another Khuk again (NOT) you'll be seeing me, thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Welcome to the Cantina Walking Man, as you've already figured out there's a bunch of good guys that hang out here.

A quick note about the maker's marks that the kamis use. Kumar's mark is a hexagram, if you told him it was a "Jewish star" he wouldn't know what you're talking about. People of the Jewish faith adopted the hexagram as a symbol back in the middle ages, but it's been around much longer than that and in use/of significance to many other people. Another good example is the swastika used by the kami who's initials are "R.R." (hence known as the "Amtrak kami"). Where he's from it's a symbol of good fortune, etc., not an indication of any neo-nazi leanings. The swastika has been used as a religious symbol by Hindus, Buddhists, Norse pagans (a symbol of Thor's hammer), and Native Americans (sorry Yvsa, I meant nDn's).

Sorry for the long winded rant, but of all the maker's marks, the two that I've repeatedly seen a strong reaction to, from folks who don't know better, are Kumar's hexagram and R.R.'s swastika.

Enjoy your first khukuri, it won't be your last.;)

We should request that they collaborate on a project, and REALLY confuse people.

Reminds me of the fella who bought a brand new baby grand piano. That evening he put on his finest tux, fixed a Glenfidich Scotch and water,
lit a premo Cuban cigar, put on his favorite classical music and walked into the piano, set his glass on the unprotected top, put his cigar on the edge so the end could scortch the new finish, and broke her in like a real man. He says he still loves her to this day.

I am one of those types of people who will not buy a knife (or gun) that I will not use. There will be no "wall hangers" in my house. If they do hang on the wall, they are there for storage, as my new Chiruwa Ang Khola will be when I'm not using it.
