Why doesn't Kershaw make the Blur with a good blade steel? The Blur is (IMHO) the best asst. opener out there, great size, awsome action, but the steel sucks!
I have to sharpen it every week! They remade the Bump, will they ever re-release the Blur with an upgrade? Even 440C would be great!

What's the problem with the blade?

I have a Leek and the blade seems fine. Does everythiing I expect and it's exceptionally sharp

Hmm, not only the bump, my scallion has the same issue.

Great little AO, but crappy edge retention, this is the worst flaw in the construction of the knife.

Is too bad, it would rate alot higher for me if it had a step or two up in steels from what it has now.

If you're looking for the best AO out there, get the Benchmade Apparition. You can switch from hand opening to AO, 154CM steel, African buffalo horn handle scales, a stout linerlock. This isn't a problem, but I would like to see it offered in a spear point.

African buffalo horn handle scales
Sadly, no.

They're black polymer, with a molded-in pattern that resembles African kudu horn. They look great, but many people think they feel a bit cheap on such an otherwise classy and solid knife. I have one and while I wish the handles felt a bit more solid, I love it!

(If I get really ambitious someday, I might try to fit some G10 scales to it, and carve out an approixmation of that kudu horn pattern...)

I had heard that the handles were fake, but then I read on Benchmades site that they were real African kudu horn.

I remember talk about that, long before they actually came out... and remember, the Apparition was *very* late to market. Perhaps they originally wanted to do real kudu, but A) hard a hard time getting sufficient supply of quality horn at a decent price, and/or B) found it more difficult to work with than expected?

Correction

African buffalo horn style scales. They are actually made of Zytel / FRN, whetever you want to call it.

makes no difference though, it is still the nicest AO knife that I have ever handled. Even though I like mine better with the spring removed so it is not assisted opening.

Edit: Never mind, I need to finish reading threads before I post

I love the Blur; but to improve it i'd like to have the same blade shape & size made of S30V, G-10 inserts instead of the "Trak Tec" ones (or even replace the aluminium handles with G-10 & stainless steel liners). It hink it would be nice

the Spec has 154CM
A very minor clarification.

The Spec Bump is the first factory knife to use the new CPM154. It is a powdered version of 154CM with a small amount of vanadium for grain refinement. CPM154 is an excellent steel.

I have a blur and its not a bad knife, but if it had a steel like 440c or 154cm and no sandpaper inserts it would be a fantastic knife.

The Boa has a S30V blade, right? It's an Onion design. I had one, not a bad knife.
The Boa has 440V or S60V as it is also known, so does the Avalanche, although I've heard that Kershaw upgraded the Avalanche to S30V.

Leek's the same, 440A, handle 410, hence a bit heavy for ED CARRY, I use it everyday at home though.
There's been many calls for a high-end blade and G10-handles on the leek.

The Scallion's only 420HC, that's why. Obviously it deserves sth better.
Wouldn't call it a construction flaw, though.

It's time to set some things straight. If you like the Blur, you will probably like the larger Buck AOs. If you want a better steel, the Sirus is available with ATS 34 with a heat treat by PAUL F***ING BOS!!!!!
It is a wide blade much like the Blur. I think the lines are far more appealing than the Blur's. It is very well ground. It also has a flipper and a safety, both of which the Blur does not offer.
Here is where I start stepping on toes, so bear in mind that this is my opinion: The Sirus is way better than the BM Apparition is every way. The spring has way more kick. The App you can press the blade out a ways (20 degrees?) and it will not open. The Buck will snap out hard every time. The buck will also not come with cheeseball handle scales. The Sirus also costs less. The App retails at $136 or so, right? The Sirus retails at $99. I don't have any numbers, but I'm pretty darned sure that ATS 34 with a Bos heat treat will out perform BM's 154cm.
Alright, I'm done. You may all stone me now.

There is also Rush that has ATS34 steel out there. Got one in a trade, wasn't my cup, but it was a neat little knife. Somebody likes em, mine has been long sold/traded etc.
