Owning a Randall model 1 has always been a "dream knife" for me. I've wanted one for at least 15 years, if not more. I kept putting it off because of the wait.

I just recently came to terms with the idea that the wait isn't getting lower, and the price isn't getting cheaper either. So I put my deposit down and ordered my dream version. 6 year wait.

Then this week this model one popped up for sale new and in stock. Naturally, i couldn't help myself and snatched it up. It's not the "dream configuration", but it is very handsome. Model 1-7 with desert ironwood handle, brass hilt and butt plate.

It will be interesting to see - when I get the other one in 6 years, will I find I prefer it, or this one i will have handled for 6 years? Preferred looks or old familiar? Both will be easy on the eyes.

Either way, I don't suspect I'll be crying about having 2 Randall's. :-)

The display I made for this Randall.
A 20 Randall note and flag. The picture is the church built in front of the Kimberly mine. The small stone fish was hand carved and given to us by the local Zulu, who were some of the finest people I've ever known.
