Arrow Carry Question

A back quiver and a backpack will be a difficult combo. If you strap the quiver vertical along the side, they will either stick up too far or hang down too low. I tried that once, didn't like it, I was always hanging up in the brush and branches, doing bad things to my feathers.

Back pack and hip quiver, maybe that would work or back quiver and butt pack.

There are back pack/ quiver combos that are pretty slick, but not exactly traditional. Google "cat quiver" for a good example. I eventually went with a bow quiver and found it to work out much better overall.

There is a system called the Catquiver which has several different size back packs and the quiver attached with them.It works fine unless you use arrows over 30" in which case you will have to add an extension to the quiver with a piece of aluminum bar stock.

You can wear a back quiver with a shoulder bag or a butt pack but it's going to get in the way of a back pack (or vice versa). There are other great traditional quiver options - do some googling on 'plains quiver' or 'lakota quiver'. They look great, hold your arrows conveniently and leave your back open for packs.

Hip quivers are great too. Fred Asbell's GFA quiver is very practical and comfortable. Hip quivers are traditional but don't look as cool as back quivers.

Something to consider with regard to back quivers - if you buy one, make sure to get a good one with pliable leather (the Howard Hill quivers are great examples of what to look for) rather than something (Neat makes one of these) with stiff leather. Your arrows will rattle incessantly in the stiff back quivers. Additionally, there is a certain amount of excess motion (flagging) when drawing an arrow from a back quiver. Many can and do hunt successfully with back quivers, but there is a learning curve.

either of these 2 quivers will work well with a bacpack... all of these pics were taken at a weekend long Trad. 3-D shoot back in April..

the first a stalker style quiver that made.. the misses now uses it..:)

Great pictures!

i'm in the process of designing a Sam Browne type setup that would have a back quiver and machete sheath along with a hydration pack strapped on my back and a bunch of pouches and stuff instead of a backpack.

if/when i get it done, i'll post it up.
