15 or so years ago I picked up a used Bushmaster Vaminter w/ a Nikon Monarch for a song. It was my 1st experience with the AR platform. The rifle was very accurate, but it was long (24" barrel) and heavy. So being the smart fellow I am, I sold the upper and scope for enough money to buy another upper and recoup my original expense (I told you I got it for a song). I ended up with a 16" stainless Hbar on a Rock River upper. I slapped a Bushnell Elite 3x9 in Leupold extra high rings on it and sighted it in with Hornady 75gr TAP. It's silly accurate @ 100 yards and has been my coyote calling rifle since.

As I've stated elsewhere, I'm a self-admitted blue steel and walnut guy, so with one "ugly" rifle in the safe I thought I was covered.

Fast forward to 2016. The election cycle is in full swing and there is a lot of talk, speculation, rumor, conjecture, and probably all out falsehoods about the pending ban of "assault weapons". So, mid-year I bought my 2nd "black rifle": a CZ Scorpion Evo3. While it's not an AR, the 9mm pistol caliber carbine (PCC) is a lot of fun at the range and could make a nice home defense gun.

Then during the 1st week of November, believing the polls were accurate and anticipating a different outcome to the election, I bought my "last" AR. This was going to be it, they would be banned and prices would skyrocket, so Filson likes to say in their advertising, "Might as we'll have the best", and I placed an order with Daniel Defense. It's due to ship on January 20th.

Please share your thoughts, experience, history, love and/or hate for the AR, AK, MSR, PCC, etc.

I've only owned one AR15, that one was an original Colt I bought back around 1980. I've had a few Ruger Mini 14's.

I am an avid gun enthusiast but I never took the plunge into the AR game. Like you, I bought into to the election hype and bought my first AR. Instead of buying several, I loaded up on tons of ammo, a spare lower and a lifetime supply of mags. Now that things have settled, I realize why ARs are like knives. You cant just have one. I've enjoyed this new venture into firearms so much I plan to build my second sometime this year! And....i've got plenty of mags and ammo now to keep me occupied for quite some time!

I love ar's. You made a good choice with the DD. One of the best rifles made imo. I also did a little stocking up on lowers prior to the election lol. Good prices but man right now at primary arms you can get a billet anderson with winter trigger guard for 39 bucks. Limit 3. Pretty much no reason everyone shouldn't have a couple in the safe

These pics have been shown before, but I don't mind posting them again. :D

I bought my first AR a few months back. Its the cheapest one that Ruger makes. I thought about spending big money on an expensive one, but for my needs, I just want something that shoots and hits what im aiming at.
I went with a Ruger AR556. I chose Ruger over some of the other newer manufacturers because I know that 20 years from now Ruger will still be in business. And they carry a lifetime warranty, so if anything happens to it I know ill be covered.

I also mounted a 1x4 power Leupold scope on top. I didn't need a powerful 3x9 traditional 'hunting' scope. I like it a lot because its nice and light, but still gives me enough zoom to hit targets out to 200 yards.
I put me a nice rubber Hogue grip on there to. When you grab hold of that grip, it aint comin loose!

My next 'black rifle' purchase will be a Beretta CX4 chambered in 9mm. Its much like the CZ that YoungCurmudgeon posted above. I want the Beretta because I already own an M9A1 pistol and the CX4 accepts the same mags as the pistol, so I wont have to worry about extra mags for each firearm.

I will say that the CX4 is pretty ugly as far as aesthetics go, but its damn reliable and accurate.

Any more pictures? Even though I can't afford one I enjoy looking at them.

Nice! I just have one AR at the moment, looking to either get a piston gun or a BCM (if I can find one). Eventually I want to pick up one in .300 AAC. I also have a Scorpion but it's the pistol version. My original plan was to get a stamp to SBR it but that was before the carbine version came out.:o Now I think I'd rather have the carbine and maybe SBR it down the road.

Ruger Precision Rifle chambered in .308.

The muzzle brake on the gun puts all the firing pressure out sideways from the gun. The pressure and wind put off by the brake is enough to blow the hat off your head. Its the first gun ive ever shot that i felt like i was going to get a nose bleed from so much pressure hitting me in the face.

Sorry the pics are so crappy. The sun was beating down.

Cool looking rig! How's it shoot?
Muzzle breaks can be a blessing and a curse. I had a brake installed on a .300 Win Mag some years ago. When I got it back from the 'smith the reduced felt recoil felt like the heavy barrel .25-06 we (my Dad & I) were also sighting in. The muzzle blast was/is ferocious. Double hearing protection is a must. When we were shooting Dad's dogs wisely hid in the barn. My dog layed right at my feet under the bench. I didn't realize he was there until after the 4 round went off. Damn dog was stone deaf for a week. He's still not gun-shy, but he did learn to keep some distance.

Ah man, it shoots great. The recoil is hardly felt at all. The muzzle blast is whats crazy!

Its my cousins gun. He has a Vortex 15x scope on it. We were shooting milk jugs at 200 yards really easy. With that sand bag under the pistol grip and the bi-pod up front we didnt even have to hold the rifle. Just put your shoulder into it, line up your shot and squeeze.

We put 100 rounds through it and worked out of few kinks, but its still a long way from dialed in. Id like to get it out for some distance next time we shoot. Ive never shot beyond 300 yards before, but supposedly thats where this rifle shines.

I shot the ruger precision in 6.5 out to 1200 yards. For factory rifles out of the box they are extremely hard to beat price wise. Great rifles

Also for all you AR fanatics. Check out fostech echo trigger. Thing is freaking awesome. It's a bump stock killer. Absolutely a blast. The speed with which you can dumb a magpul d60 drum is crazy. Not cheap but a blast for sure

Got a scope mounted on my new DDM4v7, but haven't shot it yet. I still need to adjust the position of the VFG, it was set from the factory for a someone with ape arms or Sasquatch.

I like the Storm as a companion to the 90-series and Px4 model pistols. Especially for those of us who have a 92 model since spare mags are quite inexpensive. That said, I wish someone offered an upgrade to allow for a folding or collapsible stock. That will really mean a lot to me.
