something new showed up at the door yesterday. Someone had asked about John M Smith and a response had been that Doug Casteel had used his damascus steel in his knives.

This is a new knife created by Doug. I have a large fighter from Doug and also a small boot knife by Diana. The grind work that Doug does is second to non in the world of knifemaking. This piece is now exhibiting some of his other talents.

Note the nice carved work on the blade and the engraving on the 416 SS frame which is nice but not overstated. The thumb stud has a small ruby inlayed. The interframe rainbow pearl is further enhanced by a band of 24 K gold inlayed around the perifery.

The titanium liners are completely fileworked and the makers mark on the spine is further enhanced with some nice engraving.

The blade is 3" with the OAL being 7".

The action is smooth as silk.

I go to fondle that one and it is indeed a slick piece of work. For all the wonderful details in the handle (gold inlays, engraving, pearl) it is the carved blade that I liked best. Sweet.
