Anyone have experience using their s90v? Thinking about one of their knives but they charge a big premium for that steel vs the budget line.

I've got no experience with Artisan's s90v, but in general they do a pretty solid heat treat..

Maybe DocJekl DocJekl can chime in. I think he picked up a s90v Pyrite here awhile back iirc..

So far I've only used it to cut envelopes and paper, but I've heard they do a solid heat treat, and that S90V is good at the typical 59-61 HRC from most Chinese manufacturers. I have a AC Boa and Satyr coming in S90V as well, and maybe I need to carry my S90V Pyrite more to test it out. I've heard that Pyratech is hitting 61-62 on their Kraken S90V.

I usually carry a "pretty" knife in my front pocket for light use like food and envelopes, plus a heavy duty knife in my back pocket for dirty stuff and harder work (Hinderer, CRK, Benchmade, Hogue), so my Pyrite in S90V and Damascus are ones that are not likely to get worked hard like my AR-RPM9 basic models.

Well good to know their HT is generally ok, tx. Been eyeballing a s90v Ekko bc I like the design but want better edge retention - but it's over 2x the price in s90v . . .

Probably worth the upgrade imo, plus your getting titanium instead of micarta.

I may upgrade even if it were just the steel honestly. S90V and Vanax are two of my all time favorite steels for edc..

It's strange that despite further searching online I can't find any comments on the performance of this steel by Artisan/CJRB, you'd think someone would have an opinion by now?

I'm going to look at the Cedric and Ada channel and see if he's done anything - he likes to cut rope as a test of different steels.
