I’m just ordered the blacked out G-10 full size version. Just wanted to thank everyone in advance for the money I’m about to spend. Someday I think I’d like to add a Hinderer a Zero Tolerance and the likes. Might add the mini protagonist as well. I like the 2 OTFs I have but I like the look of damascus as well I’ve seen a few Civivi knives I like as well. You guys warned me when I became a member. This is a good forum with a lot of knowledge here.

Definitely one of the largest and most overbuilt Wharncliffes made.

Dirk Pinkerton has some great designs.
 
I was an early fan of Artisan Cutlery and still own a Shark and Waistline but I haven't been paying much attention to their lineup for a long time.

My personal opinion is: Why buy an Artisan Proponent when you could buy a Spyderco Yojimbo instead?

Yeah, the Proponent is cheap but if you're already thinkiing about moving "up" to Hinderer or Zero Toleranance, it seems that the Yojimbo would be the better choice, since the Proponent just looks like a cheap copy of the Yojimbo. The Yojimbo will also be much easier to sell her than the Proponent.

Just my 2 cents.
 
They have a look I don’t find pleasing to my eye. Great knives from what I’ve read just not my thing.

Both knives are wharnecliffe blades but other than that they look nothing alike.
The Proponent is a hoot of a knife. Its a brick, really big, significantly larger than the Spyderco.
The Proponent is twice the knife as the Yojimbo.....literally. The G10 Propronent weighs in at about 9 oz, almost twice what the Yojimbo weighs, and the copper version weighs in at a bit more than 17 oz. The Proponent is more than an inch longer overall, and 1/2" longer closed.
As far as cheap, you can get one for $70 or less, but there is a titanium / S35VN model for a bit over $200....
 
Got it in today very nice. Question the single threaded screw at the bottom of the handle just rotates when I attempt to unscrew it so I change the pocket clip side any ideas so I don’t mess up the screw head?
 
The small screw on the clip and the large screw on the opposite side both thread into opposite end of the same spacer. You need to hold one to turn the other.

I handle a few of Artisan's higher end offerings and they are very nice. I almost bought one.

Civivi's damascus is quite nice.

Zero Tolerance are ok, I like the 2 I have (0095BLKS90 and 0470) but for me, their designs in the last few years are more miss than hit.

I'm a big Spyderco fan to be honest.
 
it’s taken me some getting used to the knives being made in China as viable options getting into this expensive hobby. Still have a hard time spending the same amount in a knife that can buy a gun.
 
Dirk makes a great knife. I may need to buy one of these just to keep up!

Easier for them to do it when they don’t have the basic overhead of American (and many other countries) companies. As with most buying decisions, it comes down to the buyer’s personal ethos. Like I’d rather have one TRM than three Civivi or one We. Or an Italian Giant Mouse than a Chinese one. Others disagree.
