I hope I'm not wearing myself thin by posting too much to soon, but I really like knives and talking about them. Well the question is how do you like them?

As found happens to be my favorite. I like the patina on the blade and the dirt still in the jigging. Just one look and this knife will tell you it has been around block, been there and done that. It has all kinds of stories to tell. You can preserve a knife in that "snap shot" of time by just putting a little oil in the joints and on the blades. I like the character of the knife. Kinda like if you need a lawyer look at their brief case. If your lawyer is carrying a brand new one and wearing $500 sunglasses you better run. Hire the one who's brief case looks like a satchel from the civil war.

New. Well, new is OK. New ones are kinda stupid though, they dont know where they belong in your pocket, they slip around and try to mingle with the keys or change. They might try and jump out of your pocket or hand and hurt themselves. Forget about any stories. They'll be OK in time they just need to settle down a little.

Cleaned. Hmmmm. I guess they just stop there, all their character buffed away on the shop floor. They look pretty I'll admit that. But now every time its touched you gotta wipe em down. It seems like they rust quicker after they been cleaned and they have an attitude like dont touch me anymore.

I attached a photo showing a KA-BAR trapper in "As Found", a new BUCK, and a cleaned KA-BAR.

So how do you like 'em?

Hi Loosenock,

Na you are not wearing yourself thin at all. :D. That is a nice group ya got there.

My cleaning tools amount to a toothpick, oil and Q-Tips. I think I read that in one of Bernard's books a while back so I stuck with it. I guess you could say I pretty much leave them the way I found them ('cept for a little use :)).

These are older ones I have picked up during the last year or so. None of them were expensive and they all make good users.

Loosenock,
I like them as found or cleaned if they will clean to NM. I don't like them cleaned and people telling me they are Mint. It's Kinda like cleaning up an old car it's OK as long as it's not messed up instead of cleaned up.
Nice collection you showed.
Regards,
D.Parker

I clean most of the used ones I buy, but only with oil, toothpicks, q-tips, and Brasso. This is the same treatment I give to the ones I buy new and use daily. I don't like to find them cleaned, I would rather do it myself. I certainly don't like them to have been machine buffed  .

Great knives Loosenock..., thanks for sharing...
