Here is one that is giving me fits.

We are running XP Home on a four year old Dell. We get all the various updates. We have three desktops, one for each user, all have admin rights. But we can only get Flash to work for ONE of those users! I can watch a movie on Youtube, but NOT Photobucket. It tells me to get the Flash 8 upgrade. When I try that, I get a "Failed to Install' message. I can't even log onto PayPal from this desktop, but have to switch to my wife's. My daughter cannot get into many kid's web sites, because a message comes up that the site is Flash enabled, and it can't run for us.:confused::mad:

A buddy at work suggests I go the brute force route: back up everything, then wipe the drive and reinstall XP. I REALLY don't want to spend a week dealing with THAT!

I have been contemplating the brute force method on this 5 year old Dell running XP small business. I don't hate myself enough to go through with it just yet though. Who knows Lent is upon us and I am going to need a good bit of penance, perhaps it is time. If that doesn't work, I will be opting for the Ultra Brute Force method involoving my .45 ACP. :D

I'm going to move this one before Ken beats me to it. :p

Installing Flash should not require a "brute force" method. You may simply need to login as administrator and install the latest Adobe Flash Player. If you are using Firefox's automated plugin installer you should try just downloading the installer .exe from the Adobe site and running that instead. Make sure when you do this you are the only user logged in on the machine and that all your browser windows are closed. If the above doesn't help, more details (on the errors given) may be helpful in diagnosis.

I am running IE 7. All users on this machine are admins. I have even tried the Adobe Flash uninstaller, then installed again. After the install, I used to see the little logo spinning around, which is supposed to mean a success. But then I still got the same eror messages on some Flash enabled sites. I went into Internet Options and tinkered with the Active X settings. Now when I try to install Flash 8, I just get an "Installation failed" message. No joy.
