Hi All!
smile.gif

Today is a great day for me as i received an email from Tom Walz confirming that the Odessa II is finished and Tom mayo is currently applying final touches and in the process of making the sheaths. The knife is satin finished with curly Koa handles and not forgetting Mayo's legendary sharpness with Talonite.

Once again, I like to thank Tom Walz for the contest and Tom Mayo for making the knives. Oh...and not forgetting all the staff, crew and judges that was involved in this contest. I thank you all!

Here's the latest update:
O.K folks! I got the knife today!

My gosh! Tom Mayo's work is GOOD! No no.... good is an understatement, it's Excellent! Yeah, that's more like it! The grind is precise, true and razor sharp right out of the box! The curly koa handle is polished to a luster shine and even the sheath is nicely made! Kudos to Tom for that! I would recommend anyone who is thinking of getting a knife made by Tom but hasitate, trust me....he is GOOD!

Going up again! ^

PhilL - Talonite = Good knife!
smile.gif
Anyway, Talonite is a cobalt base steel which does not need heat treating or tempering. Rust resistance is high makes it a good diving knife but due to their "expensive" nature and grinding difficulties, mass manufacturing is not practical....But you knew all that didn't ya'!?

It's an organic material derived from the talons of raptors.

Hoodoo, you know better than that. Talonite is a peculiar mix of elements born in the nuclear furnaces of ancient and long dead stars which flared out in one magnificent burst of energy, scattering talonite all over the Universe.

When concentrated and recombined in the right proportions, Talonite can be used to make blades satisfactory for the needs of the Cult of the Eternal Edge. I have no idea how it works as blade making stuff, but it sure has a nice sounding name.

I personally prefer knives made of Unobtanium. This is much rarer, richer and more lustrous stuff than Talonite.

Eric, Beautiful Design. I don't often favor 'tactical' sort of fixed blades, but your knife tickles my fancy.

Tom, Very Very well made. The curly koa handles are an interesting choice of handle material. This trio look like great knives, even if they were made from Talonite and Hawaiian Wood

I dunno about 'tactical.' It looks like it would make a pretty nice camp knife. It also looks like it would do well as a weapon. Kind of like it has two natures, and changes in response to the wishes of the user.

Looks a good deal better than any of my knife designs, so far.

Thank you everyone for your kind words!

Boriqua - Hummm...I sure wouldn't mind but i'm not sure if Tom Walz get to call the shots too. Have to ask him but I'm very happy that you are interested in the design, shows that it works.

Eric Wong.

Going up again with latest up date! ^

I'll try to shot a few more pix later cause digital camera is not with me right now.

Jake - Did you get yours yet? Let me know!
smile.gif

Yep Eric, I got mine. Aren't you glad we went with the curly koa? It adds so much more character then black Micarta would have.. And all you guys out there that want to know about Tom Mayo's work, feel free to ask me. I'll tell you, he did one hell of a job on these knives, and I'm picky as hell. While we're on the subject of these knives... I want to thank Tom Walz again, not only for his generous nature, but for his contribution to our knife community. Guys, this Talonite is great stuff and Tom's promotion of it is more than for monitary gain, he believes in his product and he appreciates fine knives with the zeal of the most hardcore knifenut. Now if I can get a Sifu in Talonite...

Jake
