ASAP spring assist issues

I've got an ASAP knife that never did open with authority. I was trimming German Bearded Iris tops for replanting yesterday with it. I felt I got sand or dirt in it because it went from a poor opening spring assist to no opening. I took it apart and cleaned it out. Now, it's back to being a poor opening spring assist. Upon opening the knife, the spring assist system appears over engineered and underpowered with the dual coil assembly. I hope Buck has something in the works to correct this weak Spring assist design. Anybody have any advice on getting a 294 to open better I'm even considering removing the springs altogether and just running it as a manual.

Been wondering, do the ASAP knives stay closed in the event of an assist spring failure? I hated the way Kershaw handled a lot of their AO knives.

There is a lock, you can manipulate it with the same finger you open with.

What DeSotoSky said. Mine opens with authority right out of the box.

This got me thinking maybe it was a little off out of the box. It opened about the same as when new so didn't know any better. I took it apart again and made sure the bottom spring was engaging properly with the blade put it back together and now it opens better than it ever has. I suspect I didn't get the bottom spring in right when I cleaned it but to be honest it must of been that way from the factory because it now does open with a bit of authority which it has never done before. It used to open all the way but just barely now it's working great. Very happy now I was getting a little down on a knife I like a lot.

The ASAP knives at least my Momentum has a blade lock on the spine of the knife that sticks out past the scales it's a little different lock but works fine it does take a little getting used to especially when new it was a bit stiff but I don't mind it now.
