IIRC, someone on knifeforums.com ("Keeping Sharp") did a good chart comparing grits of different sharpening media. You might find your answer there. There might also be a similar chart on this forum. I've seen them before, just can't remember exactly where. You might try a search on the forums or google.

I use a Razor Edge Coarse Hone to set the relief grind but some people have good luck with DMT (they have an extra-extra coarse DiaSharp). I find that the relief grind is about 90% of sharpening. If you don't want to freehand-sharpen the microbevel you could use the Sharpmaker at a 30 or 40 degree angle.

I'd highly suggest you read The Razor Edge Book Of Sharpening by John Juranitch. It's an excellent book and took the mystery out of sharpening for me

For relief grind work, the SpyderCo medium will NOT get the job done in a timely manner. The DMT "might", but it will take you a while. Get a coarse stone like the DMT coarse or x-coarse.

The SpyderCo medium and the DMT fine are for sharpening, not profiling.

The SharpMaker is excellent for touchups once you get the bevel to match the angle of the S/M, but if you're off, you're in for a long day's work. You definitely need something more heavy duty to set the bevel.
