ASH-1 (CG) vs TANKBUSTER QUESTION

WHAT KNIFE WOULD BE BETTER OVERALL-IF YOU COULD ONLY HAVE ONE??

I WANT TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE USED BOTH

THANKS

Well crap...I haven't used both but in my opinion...The ASH is the one I carry. I think the size is just right and the handle locks in my hand really well.

But that said....I do wish I had the chance to use a TB, it looks extemely well suited for an all around camper, hiker, hunter blade. I to tell you the truth the fact that it's alot thinner isn't a bad thing. Maybe someday I'll get to handle one.

Hope that helps Bill.

I don't think enough time has passed since the TB has been shipping to make much of a comparison, at least based on actual use. That said, I imagine either would be a great all-arounder (my ASH certainly is, and it's only a moderate chopper anyway so I bet the TB is just as good at camp chores and such).

They have their pros and cons, Overall field use I would pic the ASH-1 CG, If I thought Self Defense may be a big issue, TB because it is a little lighter, a little better point with the swedge version and the scull crusher. The ASH-1 can be used for SD too! it is pointy and yes super strong with that .32 inch thick blade. Both have the ability to be used in the field for all field type duties. I love them both, get one of each would be the best choice to make.

Would the skinny ASH then be the right compromise? A thread just went up a couple days ago talking about that being the best all rounder...?

I can't answer on the TBs because I passed on them. The ASHs are just that great! ;) :D

.

don't we need to be more specific like which ASH1? there were a lot of different ones out, and just in thickness there are three different ASH1...

I stated in the first line of my post that it was a ASH-1 (CG)

are there more than one thickness CG or did you miss that??

well I think he was referring to the skinny ash 1, I am pretty sure Bill is referring to the fatty.
For me, I no longer own an ASH 1 regrettably, but I did have one and now have a TB, if by 1 knife you mean some form of SHTF grab only one blade personally I think it is a toss up. They are both extremely tough knives, for me I like the handles on the TB over those on the ASH1 but that is strickly personal preference.
Hell, get both, since you have an ASH 1 already Dr Bill go ahead and order yourself a TB before they go away :D:thumbup:

there sure are a lot of "lighter" and "skinnier" comments

This thing has more weight forward in a standard grip then the nmsfno in a choil grip. it actually feels very similar to the nmsfno (held in a standard grip) when you slide back to 3 fingers.

and it's THICK. it's not just that it's a 3/4 flat saber grind - the tip is built like a tank. I'm curious to see what other people say about an in hand comparison as well, cause the tank buster is a very big knife for how small it is.

though now that I think about it, if you got the choiled skull crusher version and compared it to a fatty ash1 the scales would even out considerably, possibly leaning toward the ash1...

Yes it IS a very big knife for it's size, very heavy duty to say the least. :D
