I couldn't resist... the ASH-1 just looks too good.

Figure if I was going to get my first Busse, why do things by halves, right?

So... I hope I got it in time.

How long does it usually take to arrive? I got a CG, gray coat, normal black micarta handles.

It'll be replacing a Becker 7... next question is... what sheath should I get? That SpecOps looks like a good solution but I'm not too fond of fiddling with the kydex liner. Hrm....

Hold on let me peer into my crystal ball and summon the INFI Gods! Ughhh.....................looks like two weeks!:D

two weeks!

:D

I have always wanted to be the first to say that. ;)

&*$# IT BRAVADO. You stole that one from me.

;)

You know, funnily enough, "two weeks" is the same estimate that my sister got from the contractor when she wanted to put in an entire new porch and deck in the dead of winter with the ground frozen over.

;)

I ordered an ASH1 on January 30th and happened to get it on February 14th so mine actually did take almost exactly two weeks. It was a lot faster than I expected.
You will be really pleased with it. It is now my favorite busse(that i own;).) I think i'll go with a spec-ops for now...

+1 on Rainwalker sheaths, he can custom make anything you want, here are examples of 2 sheaths he made for me.

Gyro, where did you get that panga? Because-

This was given to me by a friend that got it in the Philippines while he was training there as a S.E.A.L. It started life as a leaf spring.

762 shooter, That is a nice bolo you got, I too went to Jest training (Jungle Environment Survival Training) in the Philippines in 1984 and bought it at the school for $10. To this date I've chopped concrete and all sorts of stuff with it and it's been the best knife I own for survival. You could probably contact the school (If you wnt another one) and they may ship you one. I've been looking for a Busse replacement but I haven't seen a bolo style like this so far. It's always been a battle between Kurkui lovers and Bolo lovers for true survival. If Jerry would come up with this design for size and weight it is an awesome tool. The Bolo is nowhere near the quality of a Busse knife but it's weight to design ratio makes if a prefered tool for many just as the Kurkui has it's spot. Both of these designs have been around longer that many of us and to this date there has been many who try to beat this design but no one has done so far. I have been experimenting around with the DFLE from SYKC and I have both the DFLE and the DF and the DFLE is coming real close to the bolo with the weight size ratio. It's shorter than the bolo but the edge retention and durability is excellent. The Battle Mistress in all forms is still way to heavy for constant chopping through jungle.

The dimensions are almost exactly that of mine. I'll ask my buddy what year he was over there, I think it was about 84 or so. And yes, it is the most functional large blade I have ever owned, hands down. Nothing has stopped it yet.

Cool, I was in the USMC at the time but we had lots of Navy seals over there at the time. It was a awesome place to live at that time. It's changed so much since then, China controls, or I should say influence allot of that country now. I was wondering why he got rid of it, that's actually a very sought out knife you don't come across. I've seen several sites offering different style bolos but none from the negritos.

The ASH-1 is an awesome knife, great first score! I would recommend against the spec-ops sheath as a permanent solution, though. Yes, you can get an ASH-1 to fit in a spec-ops sheath. I modded one this weekend. But it's simply too tight for continual use. It's also probably a little dangerous, as I can see the knife cutting right through the liner and the sheath on an overly vigorous draw. A spec ops sheath will do in a pinch until a custom sheath arrives, though.

Thanks for all the great advice. I did find references to a couple of the well-known kydex wrappers here, so I think I shall go that way.

Can't wait for her to show up!
