Well upon inspection of my new ASH 1 I came to the conclusion that I really may just have to keep this one.
Even at the cost of my BATAC SE.
But to make sure I needed to know how it performed first. So off to the local Home Depot. for a few 2x4s. And thus begins a quick chopping test.
Now mind you, the ASH 1 is no Battle Mistress when it comes to chopping. That is not its primary design. I see it more as one of the "if I only had one" designs. It covers a pretty wide spectrum of tasks. So here is how the ASH 1 did against a 2x4.

ASH 1 -vs- 2x4
I was pretty impressed. And I need to mention that the 2x4 was a little off balanced making it a little difficult to chop. But not that bad. Also, the handle is very unique IMO, and you need to experiment with the proper grip when choking back on the handle. But I definately found my comfort zone.
I will try to do another chop test soon and secure the 2x4 better.
With the thickness I have no doubts that the ASH 1 is a superb prying machine (do you hear that trolls?
) and will baton very well. The blade also tapers nicely to a nasty point. Rest assured HOGS that the ASH 1 can kick some serious ASH!
Overall I am very pleased with the ASH 1. But more testing is needed.
Thanks Jerry, Amy, and crew.
