Hi gang, just wondering if people still use their ASH 1s. I know there are so many not only old models around but a boat load of newer models coming out. Add pieces from the Yard and Swamp and you have lots of choices.

I really like the ASH 1 and plan on using it alot this coming year. I know its thick but the edge is sharp to shave hair and I have no worries using it to baton wood or go through a door.

I think it might be one of the best Bug Out Bag knives around. I like the flat slab handles and feel confident in its design.

How about you? You got one you like to still use?

Post em if you got em!!

Here is a quick picture of mine, I have a nice Mashed Cat Kydex rig for it and will post more pics as I find em.

I like this pic!:)

Take care!

This is my favorite ASH-1 here, a customized skinny.

AZ,
Now that is sharp looking, do the Skinnies cut better than the regular models? I like the finish!

It depends on the task at hand, but if they are both convexed on the edge they work equally well.
The CG is a tank and the Skinny is lighter yet plenty strong and both are great knives.
Neither is a slicer though.
Splitting wood is great with the thicker CG if it is stripped so as to be smooth like an FBM LE.
The CG also chops better do to weight if you grip the back of the handle with your first two fingers.
The Skinny seems to do better at pretty much everything else a smaller knife should, but I would be happy with either if I could only have one.

Of course either is fun to use and having both to figure what you like best is better. ;)

I love mine - it's a .22 variant Black w/ green canvas mags. I haven't shown it much hard use though, at least not yet. It's a fantastic blade, probably my favorite in the size range. the balance is perfection, the grip is near perfect (wish it was sanded,) the blade shape and overall design is best-in-class making it the perfect woods belt knife IMO.

I only have one pic of it on my phone right now. I'll add a full shot when I can.

I use mine all the time. I baton with it regularly when camping to split wood. I beat the heck out of it. Great knife.

I miss my CGAsh1. Stripped and convexed. I moved it on. I have a SarSquatch (thinner, bit more blade, and a more versatile handle).

But I still miss the Ash1. Hand really feels locked in there. Only real issue was pinky pinch when chopping a lot. Some don't have this problem at all, and it was not enough for me to not like the knife.

The sarsquatch is awesome too. I never got a chance to use it yet but love the feel.

Great knife. Had one, beat the hell out of it, sold it on. So goes the cycle. Certainly a great all rounder and for me it was a good entrance model to find out what Busse is about.

I use mine. One example is my yard tree trimming.

With satin finish all it takes to have it back shiny is to wipe the dirt off

I'm going to send my skinny Ash in to Garth and have him strip it and put a nice satin finish on it. I think they call it a competition finish?

That would be a satin finish ;) The competition finish, as far as I know, is pretty much the raw un-finished steel, with all the decarb blasted of it.

Love the ASH-1. One of my favorite Busses, along with the SJTAC and Boss Street. Used the Skinny ASH-1 to hack up a turkey carcass tonight -- none better for this job! Among all the Busses I've handled over the past few years (which includes most of them!), the CG ASH-1 feels most rock solid in my hand. I also own and love the Skinny and .22" LE, which is almost too beautiful to use. Almost ...

The ASH-1 was my first Busse and is still one of my favorites. I used it exclusively for quite a while but it has been neglected for the past year or so while I abuse my other knives. I found it to be good at just about everything. In particular I think it is a great camp knife in general. I have the skinnier 2007SE version. As someone else mentioned, the pinky pinch is a huge issue for me with this knife and I have often thought about modifying the handle. I just don't have the skills to do it myself and am not committed enough to pay someone else to do it.
