OK.... no pictures.... I asked if I could but the resounding answer was no ... :)

Had one of my two closest friends and his family stay last night, he and I grew up together and hunt together every year. His son, 13, is my godson and has been going bush with us since he was 4... :) So while the women folk (Mrs Andy, Mrs Mate and the Goddaughter) were talking and stuff the boys were off in the corner with a great gleaming stack of blades discussing the pros and cons of each.... I had pointed out the special regard I had for the ASH and in particular the black/black-tan one I have....soooo as the boy and I wandered off to wash up for dinner there was a little yelp and some swearing from the corner....without typing it all out my mate had managed to open up the inside of THREE fingers just forward of the middle knuckle.....:D:D sooo.... while the rest sat for dinner I patched him up in the bathroom as he bleed LOTS. One slice may really have needed stitching but so far I have pressed it back together and taped him up. I then provided him with a "significant" amount of liquid aesthetic :D to keep the pain down... !! It did not go at all unnoticed that I did actually go wipe down and clean my ASH before dealing with his leaking fingers.... ;);)

Not exactly how I had seen it getting its first good slice but none the less it did a really nice clean trouble free job....:):)

No offense, but finger cuts of that type should not be contended with. I'd get it stitched or at least examine in order to ensure he didn't tear a tendon and end up losing mobility in that finger...but then again I haven't seen the cut soo, its your call.

Aussies dont need doctors for cuts, some toilet paper and duct tape works for us

Pretty much ... :)

I gave it a good going over he missed all the significants just painful and a little ugly... ;) He managed to just slice into some meaty bits ... :D

Ouch. How'd that happen? Sounds like he was unsheathing a knife. Every time my wife tries to unsheathe a knife it looks like that's going to happen to her.

Hope the boy's doing well.

Use caution when petting strange hogs……sometimes they bite.

All kidding aside, best wishes to your buddies fast and full recovery.

It can not be the sheaths fault.
Busse's are just hungry :)

hope he heals fast.

oh that first bite, sounds like he made it count. Stitches and a Doctor down under?....I heard that they only call that number if a large crocodile is involved along with broken bones......:D

He mistook a homemade cardboard sheath for my modded Ratmandu as the "cover for the ASH.... the cardboard was just folded over and had some paper tape across the open bottom. When he pushed the ASH in obviously it has a little more belly than the RMD and it popped out and right into his fingers.... once it was discovered that it was neither life threatening or a permanent injury, in the great Australian tradition, it became nothing more than an incident for ridicule...!! This will last till my next "blonde moment" when the tables will be quickly turned... ;) :grumpy: Wolfdad pretty much nails the triage mechanism we use here... ;)

Friday's night's "liquid anesthetic" was provided courtesy of Grolsch and Tooheys :D :D :D

I don't know if you're aware of the reputation your beautiful country has on the Internet among us yanks, but we think everything in Australia is out to kill us, from flowers to flies to jellyfish to the sun, so you guys must be the most hardcore people around

Yep....we do play on the dangerous wildlife thing a "little" though....had a close friend from Alaska staying here last week, this guy hunts and fishes in bear country all the time, take his boat out in all that great weather to fish, is part of a search and rescue team etc etc but I can make him freeze and get all nervous about a couple of insect looking things out in my yard.... though my acting ability is the stuff of legends when it comes to such things.... I believe it was a "Funnel Web Spitting Beatle" or something at the time... :D :D :D :D

It's cool, Andy. I got you covered.

This one is of the McCartney variety.

Any good blade will draw blood every now and again. Glad this one wasn't worse.

Thanks for the story, Andy. I noticed you cleaned the ASH-1 before you cleaned your mate. Sounds like you have your priorities pretty much right....
Glad your mate is OK, too ! ;)

UYOTG ....very close mate...very close...this is about what I described to him as being about to pounce ...
