Hi everybody,

I have been looking for a hard-use busse knife around 13” overall to enhance my PSK gears. After sifting out ASH1 and SFNO from others, I find it‘s hard to make a choice between them.

On one hand, ASH1 is a little wider and has no thumb dig while SFNO has got, which means a weaker structure to me. On the other hand, SFNO is 0.5” longer than ASH1 in blade length.this could gives SFNO the advantage in chopping.

I prefer a wider blade. Is ASH1 really meets the need?

Please feel free to correct any delusions I might have and suggest some other more suitable busse knives.

Thanks all.:D

First off, you're talking about BUSSES. There is no weaker structure!
Second, while the NM may be longer, they're both relatively short for choppers I'm going to give the nod to the ASH for a thinner blade angle, since more force will be delivered by force, rather than blade weight.
I've seen a few thinner blades bite very deeply.
...............
Let me add this.... Unless you're going to do a lot of batoning, the ASH is my choice. If you're going to baton, the wider angle and shouter structure will be your friends!

If you are purchasing primarily to use as a chopper, I would recommend looking at an FSH. An FSH can out chop either an ASH or an SFNO, and the handle angle is going to be more comfortable for that purpose.

Whatever you end up choosing, welcome to the madness.

Best regards,

Les.

I've had both the SFNO and ASH-1

Here is a Group shot--SFNO on bottom

I traded it and sold the ASH-1 I had as well.

I suggest you look into a Tank Buster

Both the ASH-1 and SFNO felt good in my hands-----holding them.Using them-not good at all.

The Tank Buster feels great and is close in size to what you want.

CG ASH-1 is a little thick IMO. I like the Skinny ASH the best but the SFNO is no slouch and is the sexiest Busse ever when it's satin and sabre ground. I personally don't really care for the TAC handle which is on the Tank Buster. If you're only interested in which one feels the best in hand, I'd say the ASH with mags wins.

I don't think that you'll ever have to worry about the SFNO's thumb groove weakening the structure...I don't believe that I've ever seen any Busse broken at the ricasso (outside of an intentional destruction test video). They're overbuilt for hard use and strong as heck!

SFNO is 1-13/16 wide (+/-)
ASH-1 is 1-7/8 wide (+/-)

SFNO is .220" thick at the spine
ASH-1 CG is .320" thick, ASH-1 LE is .250" (typo) .220" thick, Skinny ASH-1 is .187" thick at the spine

Welcome to the Forum, and Good Hunting! :)

Skip the SFNO and the ASH and get a SHSH.
The best Busse ever.............

Ah, c'mon, Mulder! Give the guy a break, LOL!! ;) Let him get his feet wet with a cheaper Busse :)... THEN hook him on the SHSH! :D:D

Thanks for your advice. Is it correct that ASH1 gets a thinner blade angle because of its wider blade? or just Jerry grinds it so?

Thanks for your advice. I really love FSH except for its length. 14” is too long for me :(

Nice to meet you~

You cannot go wrong with the SFNO.
The SFNO is just a tad longer than the ASH but the rear of it's handle is open so you can take a rear grip for light chopping, making the knife feel longer and chop better. Open rear handle is more comfortable when using it to baton.
I found that the ASH handles trap your hand and limit your ability to adjust your grip for the task at hand.

Thanks for the brilliant shots and suggestion. Would you like to talk about how don't they feel well in use in more details?

The informations about Tank Buster I have got show it is 10.75" overall with a 5.25" blade lengt, which seems not correspond to the comparison with SFNO through the shots. That puzzles me.

Thanks for sharing your experience. To be same as you, I have no fever of excitement on the TAC handle. I guess the normal handle form, sorry for ignorant of how to name it, could provide a reliable grasp.

Thanks a lot for the advice and detailed parameters. Now I don't care the groove as much as before:D
