Alright I'm ashamed to admit this and have been putting it off for as long as I can but I need help. I CAN'T SHARPEN MY ENDURA VG-10!!! This is my favorite knife and I can't get the damn thing to take an edge! I can sharpen my 420jc, aus-6, aus-8, 440c,whatever else I've got but not this one. I use two benchstones, a Gatco stick and a french style steel for sharpening the other knives in my collection but they just don't seem to have any effect on my Endura. What the heck is the Rockwell on this thing, 65?:grumpy:

I been able to sharpen my vg-10 endura, veile, and delica to shaving sharp on my 204 Sharpmaker with no problem. It takes longer for VG-10 than AUS-6 or 8 but less time than CPM 440V. Maybe you should try a sharpmaker? Best of luck.

I suggest buying a Sharpmaker or, as a short-term solution, sending the knife back to Spyderco for complimentary sharpening.

I also suggest in buying the Sharpmaker 204, this sharpener is the BEST for maintaining the factory edge on your Endura(30 degrees). :D ;) :D

Like rest said you should get a sharpmaker you will not be sorry. But the sharpmaker is not good at is taking a lot of metal off a knife unless you get the diamond sleeves . Vg-10 is one of our best steels and is not that hard to sharpen, I have a lot of knives with that steel and do not have any problems sharpening them. Best of luck Ron :)

Do yerself a favor and get some sorta middle grit diamond stone to pop a burr on edges that need some serious work. I use a lansky medium diamond, and a big chunk of ultra smooth marble I found. Hair-poppin sharp, in just a few minutes.

I think your problem resides rather in sharpening techniques than in particular device. I couldn’t consider VG-10 significantly harder to sharpen than 440C. Next, there is huge difference in hardness between any sharpening stone and each blade steel. If your sharpener can grind your blade (and it surely can) you can sharpen it earlier or later, this is the question on both time and proper techniques.

Please read Joe Talmadge’s Sharpening FAQ carefully and try again.

Use marker to check are you really sharpening your edge or just grinding its back bevel only.
