I've been giving the ASHBM a bit of a belting lately. Great knife!!! Tougher than an old mallee root. I've gone through 2 mallets now. The ends have busted open and all the lead shot has come out. Time to find a different kind of baton I reckon.

The exposed metal in the head of the hammers has only made superficial marks to the spine of the knife, no dents at all. AWESOME!!!!

I spotted them breaking up in a couple of your videos. I wondered if maybe you had shares in the mallet company and a box of them in the back of the shed.

Make one of these mate, they still break but it's good fun to feel like a caveman!!

Make one out of that crazy tough wood you have out there.

Well Rob --- you sure do your knives Justice!!! Great pics as always and happy beating!!

In all honesty, my experience with both the cgfbm and ASHBM left me scratching my head as to which one I'd choose over the other.

The fusion handle on a .25" thick blade with non Magnum handle material can't be beat. Period. There's just too many grip options. It's a speedy knife that cgfbm, and the CBT is cool too.

The ASHBM feels lighter than it is if that makes sense. Very well balanced, proven design. The straight handle locks a fellas hand in like it was ground out for you. The full flat grind has become my favorite. I will certainly try to turn one into an asymmetric edge slowly but surely.

I'd choose the ASHBM if forced to choose but really you can't go wrong with either. Buy it, beat it, and be happy that you've got a super awesome tool.

ASHBM vs. Battle Saw?

ASHBM. Neither will take no for an answer. The ASHBM is easier on a baton. It's just a bit less work when you don't wear our batons as often

Do you think the CBT and thinner and wider blade make the BS chop and batton through wood better though? Obviously you have to mind the teeth if batoning, but that's not that big of a deal.

The ASHBM will generate more momentum and it's likely to penetrate deeper --- however, as has been extensively discussed --- that's not always great. If the blade penetrates too deep and wedges into the wood --- it requires rhythm interrupting and fatiguing energy to lodge it out.

That's not really a knock on the ASHBM --- it just means that it's geometry and angular momentum compliment each other for maximum penetration. There's a point of diminishing returns --- at some point, if the type of wood and the diameter of the wood reaches a certain level --- it can reduce the knife's efficiency in terms of calories/time spent vs results/performance. I'm sure some one else more experienced will chime in. Just my 2 cents

Rob do you do all this chopping to process wood to use or is it just for fun an vids?

It's all for heating. I also use the crappy stuff in the outside firepit for when outside cooking and slothing around having beers is required.
