I posted the vds in another thread but figured this may be good material for a separate thread and discussion if anyone is interested.

Vids of today's chop-off as promised earlier in the thread.
After last time I used my NMFSH, I thought it performed better then the ASHBM both with factory edge.
So I sharpened the knives and did a chop off to see which one I like better. I also added a 1311 with factory edge to see how that one will compare.
First started with ASHBM, the lanyard, kept trying to spin the knife in my hand, that was annoying (I re-positioned it later for another vid)
Very deep cuts, and very effective, of course swinging those 27 oz was pretty tiring.

Off to the NMFSH, this one chops well, but felt less powerful than the ASHBM, as expected I guess. Same issue with the lanyard.

The 1311, needs a better edge and will be very good chopper. It is light and fast, the handle is the best of the three IMHO, easiest to hold on to. The size is smaller and that make sit easier to hold tight to it compared to the other two.

Next, I figured I'd cut the tree in half with the 1311, it did the job pretty well.

Finally I used the ASHBM to cut rest of the tree in half, I wanted to make sure it indeed performed so well. Very impressive, knife. I put the lanyard trough the first rivet hole, and that solved the problem with the knife trying to spin in hand.
I was pretty tired by that time, that was the 5th consecutive chopping for the chop off...those heavy blades are no jokes.

For today the ASHBM won the chop off. Second place for the 1311. Last the NMFSH.

If one needs a great all around light to medium task chopper the 1311 is a great choice.
For smaller blade with a lot of power, the NMFSH will be a great choice.
If you want to go full out, the ASHBM should be the choice.
I am hunting after NMFBM, and FBM to compare against the ASHBM, hope I get them both fairly soon for some more chop-offs.

Dude this is gold!! Excellent videos and excellent comparisons. Thanks for your time and the effort. Yes the ASHBM is exhausting with extended use, but it's very effective. Two Thumbs up!

Very good videos :-)
To me that 11 inch blade seems to really be the best happy medium in performance while chopping and batoning.

When I got home I weighted the ASHBM and the NMFSH, the mistress was only ~10g heavier @ 794g, no wonder the NMFSH packs so much punch.

Awesome videos!!!!
Looking forward to seeing the NMFBM and FBM vs. the ASHBM Videos! :)

Thank you for taking the time to shoot and post these!!!!!!

Just so you know, the NMFSH is almost exactly a nuclear meltdown drop point FBM LE, so the performance is virtually identical. They fit the same sheath and feel the same in hand. The CGFBM doesn't chop quite as well as either, but the NMFBM will take some pretty mean bites. The ASHBM is a very good performer too... really can't go wrong with any of them! :)

I have not decided which FBM I want yet (in those cases one gets all of them right? :p ), but I am leaning towards FBM LE or 08 SE, I will want to get it with full height convex with zero edge.

Awesome videos man!!! Lanyards create the same problems for me too, so I gave up on them. For me they are a hindrance more than a help.

I find the 1311 bites deep but it binds and flexes a bit due to the thin stock, which can be annoying but it is an amazing chopper nonetheless. Especially when you compare price. But, there's something to be said for a big thick heavy chopper with good grind geometry and good steel. Gotta love the BMs and the SHs.

Thanks for the videos! :)

Great videos, I love watching chop-offs and knife comparison videos.

Thanks for the Video. I love the 1311. I really hope they come back out so I can get a second. When you add the fact that when you put a good edge on her she is a great brush clearer as well and can do heavy chopping to me it is the perfect large blade. I had a Satin .27 NMFBM that I thinned the fat convex edge for performance and it was outchopping the 1311 but the weight was a little to much for hiking and such and it was not fast enough to clear brush.

My favorite over the ones I have used is the NMFBM. That said, I don't like it for light work, because of the serious inertia of that much swinging mass. The 1311 is great for that, and for carrying a distance.
