Been here a few years, but rarely post. Just had a question rattling around in my brain, and figured I'd ask.

So, I went back through like 60 pages of the picture thread at the top of the page, and only saw (4) No Choil ASHBMs (besides my own pictures) in the entire thing, but several with a choil. I also went back about 2 years in Instagram pictures, and only found 1. This made me wonder if the "no choil" version is less common, or rare..if you will. I also noticed that a few years ago, when I bought it, the no choil version was discontinued long before the choil version, and even then the page for the no choil version was taken off of the site completely, whereas the other has been there until very recently. I have beat mine like a red headed step child, and have no plans of ever getting rid of it. I'm just curious if it is a more elusive model.

Thanks, and Hog On 😎

Yes, it's rare, for a long time you saw several sig lines offering to buy them, I think most have given up

I don't know others' philosophy of use, but personally a choil on a larger knife adds a bit of versatility for me.

It affords a little bit of control for finer tasks that you may be faced with. It adds more grip variety.

The only advantages I've found with choiless knives is cutting cordage or stringy, strandy materials and not getting hung up or carving large stock and using like a draw knife.

So, I'm a choil guy.

MOF, I've gotten so used to choking up on my larger blades like my B8-- if I'm not careful-- I find myself indexing my B10 with my index finger on the blade at the heel

I didn't remember, so I went and checked. My satin ASHBM has a choil, my sage doesn't. Picked them both up here.

Yeah, it seems like no-choil ASHBMs are decently uncommon. Mine is CG Black/Brown micarta. My absolute favorite knife. I have never found myself wanting a choil on it, personally.

The coating is getting to where it might be better to strip it. I'm also entertaining the idea of grinding about 1" of the spine to 90 degrees for striking ferro rods. Making it look very good though, of course.

I'm just unsure, because if the no choil version is that uncommon, I'll probably just leave it as is, and get another one to tweak...decisions decisions.
