Greetings everyone,

I’m finally posting some of my pictures from the 2009 Ashokan bladesmithing seminar. I took over 750 photos, so it will take me a while to get the good ones edited for the web. I’ll start with pictures from Friday, 09/18/09.

I got to Ashokan a little early, so I had time to go for a walk before dinner. You are just about guaranteed to see some deer at Ashokan and, since no one hunts them, they are not very shy. This doe actually walked to within 20 feet of me.

This is the famous Ashokan covered bridge.

And this is a shot of Winchell’s Falls, just below the field campus.

After dinner, Tim Neu, the Ashokan director, gave his usual opening remarks.

Then Tim Zowada gave the introductions.

And Dan Maragni (ABS MS) showed us the books in his “Best Of” category.

After Dan Maragni’s books, it was time for “Open Forge”. Naturally, Sam Salvati the pyro was the first to fire one up.

Here’s one of Sam with a Bowie, the blade is unfinished blade of course.

This is Eric Boese tending a forge.

Larry Theroux (with the hat) worked on a blade, while Dan Pierson worked on another anvil.

Later, Dan had to defend his anvil from an invader.

John Richter forged a blade

This is Bill Hoffman with a sword that he made at a Don Fogg class.

Here is Howard Schecter holding Bill’s katana. Howard runs The Perfect Edge.

This image shows Terry V. from Hart Steel straight razors. I forgot his last name. Terry is the one with the green hat. Deker is over by the fire. I don’t know who the third guy is.

William Vanheteren, John Dulovich, and Roman Landes watched the proceedings.

This motley crew includes Justin, Kevin Cashen, another guy I don’t know, and Tim Zowada .

That's all for tonight.

Thanks for sharing your pics! Glad to know i'm not the only one who took a whole ton. I'm actually in a few pics myself ! /gasp/ I'm usually the one thing not in any of my own photos =) /invades Dan Pierson's anvil space muwahahah

Hey, look at that, I almost look like a know what I'm doing. In reality, I just watched Sam and faked it :D Well, except for the forging part...that was just pitiful (and a little embarrassing):o

Very nice Chris, the last photo, the guy next to Tim Zowada is Clive Russ
a photographer and collector of sorts.

So Phillip, you're saying that the dust flying was OFF the Richter Scale then? WOW ;)
