Greetings everyone,

(*If anyone is interested, I started a thread of Ashokan forging photos in Hammer & Tongs sub-forum.)

The 2013 Ashokan Bladesmithing Seminar was the weekend of September 20, 21, and 22nd. I attended and took lots of photos. So far, I’ve only edited and uploaded my photos from the knife show on Sunday. Here are some of the pictures. (If I have misidentified any knives, or if you know who made the knives I didn’t identify, please let us know.)

This was Stacey Apelt’s table:

These were on Matt Berry’s table. I don’t know him, but I was very impressed with his carved handles. Also, I particularly liked his spear head.

Some guy named Cashen made this ho-hum dagger :). Wow!

Mike Davis was a demonstrator this year. These are some of his knives:

Herb Kettell is an instructor at the New England School of Metalwork in Maine. He made these knives:

Ric Furrer starred in Nova’s “Secrets of the Viking Blade” program. This was his table. I really like the Wootz chisel.

Roman Landes flew in from Germany to lecture. He made these knives.

William Vitale had a table too:

He had this giant knife, shown here next to a life sized pair of tongs.

Well, maybe it’s all a matter of persective...

Here’s the man, with a big dagger he had on display.

Matthew Parkinson was on hand with a bunch of knives and swords. I really like the sword with the cutlass style handguard.

Matt also had a cool spear head.

Some crazy guy had this table.

Here’s the crazy guy!

Apparently, he doesn’t realize the fez makes him look like Morocco Mole.

Here’s a blade the Sam forged on Friday night. His forged to shape blade looks better than my finished ones! I didn’t get a photo of it until Saturday. By that time it had had some minimal grinding to the back and tang.

These blades were all marked “Wagner”, but I don’t know who he is.

I don’t know who made these knives. (* Eric Stroman has posted below and identified these knives as his first seven. Nice work!)

This table had lots of knives by well-known makers, but I don’t know whose table it was.

This knife was on that table, but I don’t know who made it.

This table had some really cool old Filipino blades, but I don’t know who put them on display.

Nor do I know who made these swords.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my pictures. Join us at Ashokan next year if you can.

Thanks for sharing all the images, Chris !
Ashokan must be something else !

The Cashen dagger..WOW..the handle wrap alone is mind boggling.
Gary Graley started an Ashokan thread in Community, don't know if you've seen it yet.
Thanks again, Chris.

Hi Chris, My name is Eric Stroman and this was my first time at Ashokan. Wow, was I impressed by both the talent and the people. What a great bunch! I have every intention of being there next year. Thanks so much for the photography. My knives are pictured under the ones marked "Wagner", and represent, in order from left to right the first thru seventh knives I've made. The last two are forged. The rest are stock removal. All are made from O1 Tool Steel. They show my various experiments with full tang, hidden tang, and thru tang handles, along with stacked washers and file work on the spines.

Who made the hawks, and what did they cost? I want one!

Sam Salvati, the guy in the fez, made the tomahawks. I don't know what he gets for them, but he's here on the forum under his own name.

Ashokan is always a great time - thanks for all the good pics. Love Kevin's dagger and Sam's in-progress bowie. That sucker is forged VERY closely to shape.

Oooh, great stuff!
Matt's table always makes me grin like an idiot.
Thanks for the pix!
