My little baby's boy friend went to the ER yesterday, he's 18 and diabetic, his ketones were really high, his blood sugar was over 600, white blood cell count over 30,000, very low blood pressure, very rapid heart rate.

He's in ICU but they are movin' him to a regular room as there has been improvement.

If ya could keep him and her in your thoughts and prayers I'd appreciate it.

Thank You.

Been there. Doesn't feel real good.

I hope he heals up quickly and completely and gets into a good routine to control his blood sugar.

Prayers and positive thoughts for his rapid recovery sent Ted. Hopefully when he is recovered he will pay closer attention to the things that can minimize these episodes for diabetics. Hard to do when you are young, I know. Give our best to your daughter as well.

Prayers coming your way, Ted!

best regards -

He's doin' better , looks like he'll be released Monday, all his numbers are closer to normal, problem with bein' 18 is that ya think you're invincible and ya know better than everyone else.

Hell when I was 18 ya couldn't tell me shit, hell at 51 ya still can't tell me anything sometimes. ;)

He's a good person, he loves our daugther, she loves him and so do we, I think this was a wake up call for him, I just hope he takes this lesson to heart.

Thanks again for all the smoke and prayers, he's doin' better I know the big guy upstairs listens to your prayers and sees your smoke.

Please do keep us updated. At 18, I was immortal. I proved it by making 19, so I was convinced. I would not have fared well with a condition like diabetis which takes a lot of self awareness and self preservation.

i have also been there and i watched my wife's cousin loose both his eyes and finally passed away at the ripe old age of 30 he wouldn't take care of his diabetes at all but i will pray for him and hope he starts keeping a better check on him self

Thanks guys, you work quick, he came home today, he got a lecture from the doc, and my daughter, his numbers all went back to normal, apparently he had got sick started vomitn' and continued till he got dehydrated and his BS went haywire causin' all his secondary symptoms.

Hopefully he'll pay closer attention to his diet and numbers.

Thanks again all.

Fantastic! Hopefully this put a fright into him, particularly if it is his worst episode so far. The science of diabetic treatment and stabilization is astounding these days, if only the patient will do his part, like being cautious of diet and making time to do the testing on a regular schedule and more often when warning signs first crop up.

Positive thoughts from the Pleasant Valley for all!

Thanks again for all the smoke, he's doin' much better, he's payin' much closer to his #s and watchin' and measurin' his food intake.

I think this time put fear into him, I was gonna lock this thread but I figure any belated smoke and prayers can always help, I mean he is 18.:)

Glad to hear he's normalised. With some encouragement & support lets hope he stays on track.
I was diagnosed at 37 with Type 1 diabetes. I have lived with it ,working as a firefighter & raising a family for 10 years.
It is like trying to sail with the anchor out.
However nothing is out of reach with some forward planning.
At 18 it would have been another story.
Sounds like he had a wake up call. We need those although it worries our loved ones.
I'm not exactly a monk either-.
good luck.
