Assam Regiment Kukri?

I've been looking into kukri's latley and was wondering who supplies the Assam Regiment with them? I was on the Kult of Athena website and saw that Windlass Steelcrafts has an authentic looking one in which Windlass states "This authentic kukri is made by the official government contractor, Windlass Steelcrafts ..." Is there any truth to that or is it just a ploy to sell them? It is a really nice looking kukri in my opinion. But I don't pay for just looks, I want functionality. So any input would help. I'll post a picture of their kukri because I know I like looking at pretty pictures.

This picture belongs to the Kult of Athena website and not I. So please don't sue me.

You'll have better luck in the Himilayan Imports Cantina with this. Be sure not to post in the main HI forum if asking about other brands, as that's for HI products only. The Cantina is for all things khukuri. That being said, I'll say you should peruse HI's products if looking for a khukuri. I have no personal experience with Windlass, but I've read/heard they are pretty rough. The flip side is they are pretty cheap and I know of at least one that was made servicable after extensive edge work.

For authentic khukuri, I can personally reccomend HI and Tora. Both outfits make khukuri by hand with traditional materials. HI has a forum here and regularly offers Deals of The Day in the forum. A DOTD allows you to get some great deals, if you're quick, on blemished khuks. The blem is often no more than a hairline crack in the horn of wood handle. I can say that a hairline crack in horn is absolutely nothing to worry about. Tora offers the same, but the stock is much more limited and so are the DOTD. My first Nepali khuk was a blemished HI WWII model. It's still my most used and was picked up for a very, very good price, including shipping. It's hairline crack hasn't moved at all. Good luck.

ETA: The owner of HI is Yangdu Martino (Auntie to most). She lives in Reno, Nevada, but her father runs the show in Nepal. He is a former Gurkha with the Assam Rifles.

I am going to go ahead and call that a "tourist Kukri". Designed and built to be a wall hanger.

The Windlass kukris are good and functional--they're just poor compared to HI offerings. I've got one of those Assam Rifles ones and it works just fine. It's just ugly as sin and came from the factory about as sharp as a marble. Consider it "munitions grade."

Thanks for the help. I just checked out Himalayan Imports, they have some really interesting models. I'll have to do more research on it though before I buy.
